( ....So all you guys out there looking forward to youur 50 hour service, It's a peice of cake. Take your time the first time through and make notes of wrench sizes so it will go even faster the next time. )

Steve - would you mind posting the wrench sizes for us? No, I'm not lazy, just not looking to reinvent the wheel (and that's a great idea on your part).

No hurry, I have about 30 hours to go before the service. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I pasted this from a post I had last year. Hope it helps.

Just did my 50 hour on my bx23 this morning. Took about two hours.. Don't worry about the fluid in the FEL. Just move the cylinders so that they are retracted fully. A few things for others:
bolt sizes

Engine drain: 19mm
trans drain: 17mm
Front end drain: 14mm
front end fill: 22mm
Trans screen: 26mm

Thats the only tools I needed. A funnel with tubing on the end will be helpful with trans filling. If you drive all of your wheels up onto 2x6s you can remain level and gain a little more access for the front end drain procedure. I used a standard filter wrench. After filling the front end let it sit for about 15 minutes and then top off again. Nothin' to it.
Hope this will help

Steve

Radair,

Here are some other tips when doing the 50 hour service for the first time. Wow time flies I am getting ready to do the 300 hour service soon, this was a good review for me.

( I think this is obvious, but I'll ask anyways - Do you have to remove the front end loader, grill guard and engine cover in order to change the oil filter on the BX tractor - We got snow last night and I was too tired after work to look at it.

Thanks )

( Hey Junkman. Do you have a pic of that strap wrench? I had a devil of a time using mine, and finally had to borrow a neighbor's
1* filter socket wrench to get the thing off. Thanks! )
======
1*This wrecnh will work fine on filters that have a notched end but if the edge of the filter is round and smooth at the end you can't use it.
You need a claw type wrench that has 3 fingers to remove the round smooth end filters.
I got mine at Auto Zone for under $8.oo.
BTW Kubota uses both style Filters.

( Thats good to know. I've been peep'n mine out in anticipation of the upcoming 50 service. I actually want to remove the engine cowling so I can inspect it thoroghly. I'll probably have the FEL off but didn't want to remove the grill guard unless I absolutely had too. There seemed to be enough clearance but was gonna wait and try come 50 hrs. Since I'm only at around 21 hrs now, I've got some time yet to go.
=====
No need to take either the FEL or the engine cowling off.

( After briefly looking at it tonight,
1*it may be possible to get the filter off without removal of the FEL and cover, but
2*I would think that excess oil in the filter will get all over the place. )

1*I did it with out removing them.
2*No problem!

The secret is having the right filter wrenches.
See my above post.
