Removing old fence posts

We used a boom attachment with a 4' safety chain attached to the loop closest to the tractor NOT the end boom loop. Made a 1' loop at the end of the chain and used the c-link to make this loop. Twisted a figure 8 of this loop and dropped over the top of the T-post. The figure 8 would drop to the ground or near it. Used three point hydraulics to raise boom. Same could work on wooden posts. Just need to make the original loop larger to allow a figure 8 to drop over the post.

I've used a big pipe wrench around the post, and a loading strap/sling to the forks/bucket. The strap goes on the wrench handle, and it tightens the wrench on the post when you lift up with the loader.....pops them straight out.

I've left few post holes uncovered but, of those few, I've found a small animals trapped in a couple of them so, once you get the post pulled, please consider filling the holes immediately.

Right, besides those holes are leg busters, not only for you but for livestock

If you want to re-use the posts, you're probably best off with a chain. I keep dreaming of a way to pull the posts without having to get off the tractor and hook the chain to each. One way would be with some sort of hydraulic grabber, maybe a modified bale grabber? Another would be to bolt a V-notched steel plate to the bucket and pull the posts like pulling nails.

There are a lot of these available, Check this thread: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachments/277824-tree-puller.html

I am maybe fortunate with our posts. I got away with using the grapple on my tractor and just yanked them out.
I made a puller for t posts with a piece of chain and 1/4 inch plate steel. Cut an oversized "T" into the 1'4 plate, hook to the chain, put a hook on the other end of the chain, hook over a bucket tooth, drop onto the t-post. It locks on as pulled up by the bucket. Pulls t post very nicely.
We did about 50 Sunday in less than an hour. Some were 8 footers.
I left the puller in the field or I would take a pick of it. It just works.

We just pulled out a bunch of old fence posts this past weekend. I don't know of an easier way than you described. My brother helped me for about a hour and we probably removed about 40-50. We used a short chain and 2 or 3 chokers, plus a set of forks on my FEL. We had a system down in a few minutes where there was very little wasted time. We rotated chokers so that we didn't have to slow down to remove them before working on the next post. We then scooped them up with the forks and carried them off at the end.

We definitely filled all the holes with dirt. They might settle a bit, but all those holes are an accident waiting to happen.
