Removing Plug to Install a Block Heater - Need some ideas

Hey, did you managed to get the plug out ? I just did mine yesterday on 226D. I have access to water jet so I made my own wrench and welded to the 3/4drive socket. Worked the tractor for few hours clearing snow and then just used breaker bar. Lots of crap inside but it worked. If your square is rounded too much, I agree with other guys here that your best option is to weld a hex nut on it. The plug does not have very thick wall and I don't believe you can crack the block. Anyway I will see if I can attach few pics from yesterday.

Heat the oil and coolant. The battery maybe loosing capacity .
And while you're at it put a trickle charger on the battery overnight. This will warm the battery improving its output even when it won't take any more charge.

I would get the engine hot with coolant in it. Put a plastic garbage bag over the grill to help warm the engine quicker. Then weld a nut onto what is rounded off on the plug. Make sure you use a large enough nut to fit completely over the head of the plug. As soon as you are done welding touch a wax candle to the threaded area. The wax will melt and then follow the threads into the block lubricating them. As soon as the welding has cooled to block temperature start working the plug back and forth using an air impact gun set to about medium torque. When you are changing directions on the air impact don't release the trigger just instantly reverse direction by using the appropriate buttons or knobs. You might have to work at this for a while but the plug will come out. You can even leave the engine running to keep heat in the block.

Have fun!

I was reading through these comments snd thinking candle wax as I was reading. Some names are ones I have seen many times with great suggestions, and I was thinking do they not know about wax threads. An uncle of mine taught me that trick when I was a teen ager, many many moons ago (now pushing 60 pretty hard) yes it is an old trick but one that works really well.

If it makes no sense to you look up youtube videos.

[SUP][/SUP]Sorry to revive an old thread but I cant find an answer any where else. I want to install the block heater as described in this thread, however, in my 3110d there is a hose coming from where the plug should be and runs down into another fitting. Any ideas what this hose is for? I cannt find any info on it. Thanks

Coolant drain.

The coolant drain is where the hose is running into?
Is the hose suppose to be there? Seems like every one I have seen so far has the plug in it that is removed to add the heater.

I don't know about the heater plug but that cap at the bottom is the coolant drain. Be sure the cap has an o-ring under it.

The operation manuals for older Yanmars indicate antifreeze is optional and the tractor must be drained for winter, if its in common Japanese use where the tiller stays on permanently and the tilling is done only a few days per year.

I suggest for American use, run antifreeze, install the heater, and securely plug that little hose.

Now the difficulty in getting that plug out is another issue. I see there are lots of comments above in this thread, about that.
