Was after squirrels that were doing damage, but caught a skunk in a spring trap. Had to finish him off with the pellet rifle and he let loose good before he went, but now how do I get him out of the trap? :(
Planning on using gloves as a precaution for rabies, but the stink is really bad.

The trap is one of these.... http://nwco.net/0531-stepthreeletha...2-BodyGripingTraps.asp_txt_conibear_right.gif
(for some reasons can't seem to post images like I used to)

Bury the trap with the skunk

Give him a few days and maybe a rain or two to dissipate.
You get used to it. If your mouth starts foaming a little with an almost sweet but acrid metallic taste you have gotten a good strong dose and it doesn't bother you so much there after. Kind of what doesn't kill you makes you stronger kind of things.
If your married you might not be able to sleep inside for awhile either, but that ain't all bad in and of itself.

I got a live trap that has been sitting in the woods now for a couple months! Ask me what's inside..... Gonna wait til next spring and just shake the bones out!

I set live traps all the time for raccoons in my barn but sometimes get a skunk. Have a local guy that will come get them for 20 bucks. He just takes a large canvas tarp holding it up in front of him and slowly walks over and gently warps it around the trap, picks it up and loads it I his truck. He stated he has been during it this way for 25 yrs and never had one spray. I am still not confident enough to try, so I just call him. Plus, what do I do with it after I wrap it. I like bury the whole thing idea.

Got it out..... there's a good breeze today, so I got upwind of him and with a pair of heavy rubber work gloves and a rag over my nose and mouth was able to squeeze the spring and let him drop loose. Buried him and washed down the trap, gloves, and shovel.
I think next time I set the trap for squirrels, I'll put it atop something maybe a skunk can't get up on.

You could do like they do on CSI and put some Vick's VapoRub under your nose.
