repairing power steering on a Ford 3500 Industrial

Tucker, I went to messicks.com and looked up the 3500 steering. The four photos below show the system components, but no details of how it works. The first illustration is the complete system and piping. The second is the PS cylinder detail and the third and fourth are the two types of pumps/reservoirs used on that model.

Thanks. But that is not what the PS is like on the tractor I was working on. I was told that's what the tractor was. It was repainted and no one knew where the ID plate was. So they must not of known either.

From what jinman posted, it is obviously not a 3500. Do you or anybody know what Ford tractors had a belt driven PS pump? I may call him or email him and ask how it is coming along.

i believe it a 4400 but they did not have a belt driving power steering pump. only the pre 64 models with powersteering had a belt drivin pump. somebody might have put that pump on if the other pump went out a picture of the pump would help but if it leaking in the front end i would check the two metal lines and the cylinder its self that is where i have had trouble with them leaking and if its hard to turn change the big pin and two bushing that the L shaped harm pivots on

look on the bellhousing where the starter bolts on

Tucker, I see the two lines going behind it, but that sure looks like a generator to me. Why else would it have air cooling fins on the front behind the pulley?

that is the generator. the pump is right below that with two bolt holding it into the timing cover it is a little square pump that is the old style the new style has the resivor built on to the pump

look at jinman attachments the third picture is of your powersteering pump settup and the fourth picture is the new style pump

It didn't quite like look like a pump but when I was looking at it before somehow I came to the conclusion that that was the pump.

I was just looking at Messicks.com and the power steering is obviously from a 4400 Ford. So with that, I'll look again for parts.

Whoever is going to work on this tractor is going to waste a lot of time, effort, and maybe money if they don't do a better job of procuring information. This means a service manual, either for a 4400 or an early 5000 which uses the same system and for which a service manual will be easier to find.
