New Holland TC-40
As I use our new TC40, I am finding that I wish I had a nice tractor seat with some sort of suspension, like the old seat I use in a MF165. Basically the property we own and the land I mow is not glass smooth yet and frankly, the boomer it beating me up. I couldn't remember if the TC40D seat had a suspension or not. Regardless, I have a TC40 and was wondering if anyone out here in the community has looked at or replaced a seat on any of the Class III Boomers. Would a seat from TSC work, or do I need to be careful of the shutoff switch incorporated into the tractor?

Other than this seat issue, I completely love this tractor. I think we are truly lucky in this country to have so many excellent choices to choose from when it comes to compact tractors. I looked at all colors, but basically, the Blue dealer around here was willing to deal, and the Green dealer was not.

I thank you all in advance for any information you may have about this seat issue.

Yes the 'D' model comes with a great seat. It has adjustable suspension and can rotate to either side for better viewing of rear implements. You could look into ordering one from the dealer. Probably expensive.

Yes the 40D does have suspension seat. It is very nice, lots of adjustments too. But my guess would be it will be pretty expensive from the dealer. I added the armrests and I believe they were about $75 /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif.

I don't know about the seats at TSC, I imagine they would work, but it might take a little modification to get the bolts to line up right.

You might want to look at Northern for seats too. They have some suspension seats in their catalog.

I dissabled the shut off switch under the seat anyway. The "D" seat come with a adjustment for the springyness, but the rotating is really nice. I haven't needed armrests yet.

I asked my delaer about the price of the Deluxe seat and he said it was about $700-$750. That is a lot of seat!!!!!!!!

Before my "40D" I had a TC29 gear with the unsuspended seat that also beat the tar out of me. I ordered a seat from northern for 130.00 that wasn't as nice as my deluxe seat but a big improvement anyway. I had to drill some new holes but got the job done.

The seats on the "D" models are very very nice. Forget how nice it is until I drive my parent's MF275 which has a seat they bought at Farm-N-Fleet. One little drive on that makes me appreciate my TC40D all the more /w3tcompact/icons/love.gif!

Thanks for the information on Northern. I assume the holes you drilled were on the new seat and not on the TC-29?

Brad - Do the armrests fold up and out of the way?

Spencer200 - How much are the armrests for a 25D seat? I noticed the back of my seat has the predrilled holes, so I imagine I can just order the armrests and attach them.

Mike, the armrests do fold up out of the way. I use them some, but not as much as I thought. For me they would be more comfortable about an inch or two higher.

Brad,

Given the price Spencer200 quoted, I'd be looking at close to $100 after tax and shipping are added in should I purchase from my local dealer. Do you think they are worth it?

Hard to say. I thought I would use them mostly for mowing. I almost never use them for that. But I do use them quite a bit when using the loader. They seem to be just in the right position for that.

If it were me, I'd probably pass on them for $100. I didn't mind as bad because I got them at the same time as the tractor so it was just a drop in the bucket.

Agree with Brad that the arm rests are great when doing FEL work, perfectly positioned to let the arm rest with the FEL joystick in your hand. They are ok for me too when mowing or doing non-FEL work. It seems to depend on body dimensions and how you like to position the seat and tilt steering.

Added mine a few months after the tractor purchase and spent $90 for them. Would I do it again, yes. It makes the tractor use a little more comfortable.

Mike, the arm rests are like a lot of other "options", I guess; some like'em; some don't. My B7100 didn't have any and I think they'd have been worth $100. My B2710 did have them and I never folded them up out of the way except to see that it did work if you wanted to do that. My neighbor has an old Oliver that I put a lot of hours on cutting and baling hay and it has a really nice seat with arm rests. When I use that tractor, I keep the arm rests down and use them, but when he gets on it, he folds them up; never uses'em./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
