Replacing my Murray! Need advice!

After re-reading my post above I decided that it might be deemed disrespectful to the consumers out there that I make my living from.

What I meant in more detail is that if "we" would clean our airfilters every time we mow (yes everytime) and change "our" oil twice per season, and keep the debris cleaned out of "our" decks and engine compartments "we" would get a lot more use from "our" equipment. If everyone did this it would make a phenominal differance in the longevity of engine and machine.

Also only buying equipment with grease fittings and heavy blades that can be sharpened regularly would be a huge cost saver.

Sounds like some of those problems were Briggs problems, /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I picked up the engine failures in the link also and while I am not a big B&S fan I don't blame them for all the problems noted. .

I wil never buy another MTD product nor will I ever Buy anything with a B&S motor.

I bought a MTD with a B&S motor.
Have had nothing but trouble with the motor and the tractor isn't far behind.
Nothing like getting 2 screwings for the price of 20.

( cheap steel pivot axles (especially MTD),
1* cheap bushings (actually nylon insert type things),
2*Bolts that vibrate loose. ) ~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1*I could not keep these on the left side finally wore the hole way over size and out of shape.
A welder friend and I Discarded the nylon inserts and plastic bushings and replaced that junk with a piece of pipe welded to the top and bottm holes in the axle packed it with grease & put the wheel back on. This left side will probably outlast the factory right side 10 to one.
2*You forgot the front axel bolts that fell out of mine so when I backed up I backed the tractor right off of the front axel.
Consumer Reports lists the JD L series as top rated. Home Depot has em and they won't break the bank. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
