Didn't try that, but will see if it works. Thanks for the suggestion.

Wow, only one idea/suggestion thus far! Have I stumped all of the experts with this one?????

From the factory parts diagram (attached) it looks like the 020 shaft has pulled out of the inner bearing 030.

I'd try this first: With 100 out of the way, and 040 taken off, hold the outer end gear of 020 with vise grips (using a thick leather glove to protect the gear), and move the inner end of the shaft around to find the center of the 030 bearing again. May need to turn a little as you go.

Does the WSM have any caution about pto disassembly?

-OR- the shaft spine is misaligned with inner spline of gear 090. Rotating the shaft a little bit via the gear on the end might help. In any case, it looks like it needs to be wiggled into position one way or the other.

Not to get too far into the weeds here, but 090 slides back and forth to engage the pto - so the 020 may be able to move 3/4 without disengaging it. But a more significant concern is that the 060 circlip should have prevented the 020 shaft from moving back in the first place, even if the rear bearing was tight. In moving back, the 020 shaft may have allowed the 050 thrust washer to drop out - and just fishing it out again would increase the scope of this job. The tell will be whether the gears are flush after the 020 goes back into place. If it goes beyond flush, the washer may be out of place. As always, prompt cheerful refund if info is bogus. Dick B

Crap.

My cover leaks & now you have me scared to do what I thought was a simple job. Glad you posted though. Can you tell me if there was a gasket for the cover? My dealer said it just uses sealer.

Wish I could help, I'm hoping all works out well for you.

I can't tell from the picture, but it looks like the gears are lined up as are the bearings on the two shafts. It looks like they are suppose to be out like they are and are supported by the case end that is removed. Am I seeing things?

How are you supporting the small shaft to keep the gears in mesh with the PTO shaft when you go to put the case end on?
