So the "good guy" lawyer that "defended" the totally innocent landowner from the 'bad guy" lawyer only made $10,000 for his part in the "sting".

Newsflash(NOT!) -- they're all in this together! Next time some "innocent" gets screwed, they'll trade roles. AS IF there should even be a question here, requiring the "services" of any attorney or judge(attorney!) The whole system is a contrived scam ...objective? - MONEY in the pockets of the "legal"(aint that a *****?) profession! SCUM!!

Why insult them? Because they ever-so-much DESERVE insulting! And there is darn little else anyone CAN do to give them the credit they have "earned" by "serving" us so well.

Next time I'll tell you how I really feel about these parasites!

>> At this point we've put up a large, and prominent "No Trespassing" sign at the last split in the shared road.

What you need is a sign that says "Next to the last one" with an arrow pointing to your neighbor's...

...and another sign further up your road that says "Get lost - someplace else" /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I caught a bunch of mountain bikers riding through our yard to get to the trail that runs behind the house. When I confronted them, the said "but we've done it before"...like that makes it OK to do again! You gotta wonder what these people were thinking...

Don't feel bad Bill. On this ground that I just bought I was over there last night and heard all this shooting down in the ravene. I inched my way over there to see what was going on and saw these guys blasting at turkeys. I yelled out to them so they wouldn't shoot me and went down to talk to them. I told them they were on private property and there was no hunting. I asked if they had seen the signs and they said yes but I couldn't do anything about them hunting here because they were grandfathered in for hunting because they had been hunting here since before I bought the ground. I said what!!! I said the same guy that owned this doesn't own it anymore. They said they knew that. I told them I was sorry but there would be no more hunting as I would be running livestock here and I didn't want people hunting here anymore. They got mad and said there was nothing I could do and if they killed something they'd pay for it. They'd been hunting there for five years and weren't about to leave. I said ok that's fine we'll let the sheriff handle it. I had my cell phone and called the sheriff and I explained what was going on. They said they'd send someone right over. Awhile later he came over and I told him what was going on and the guys said that they were grandfathered in for hunting. The sheriff laughed at them and said who told you you were grandfathered. They said they'd just heard that. He told them there was no such law and that they were trespassing and subject to being arrested if I wanted to press charges. He asked me if I wanted to and boy did those two's attitude change. Evidently the one was already on probation and he wasn't even supposed to be hunting. I told them both that if I had their word there would be no further trouble then I wouldn't press any charges. They both agreed and then were apologetic and said it wouldn't happen again. Just goes to show you the mentality of some people.

CBD, when I tell other people a story like this they do not beleive it... that people can be this way. It has happen to me several times. "We have been hunting here for 10 years and we are not about to leave." Funny, but the land has been in the family for over 80 years. One question, ""Evidently the one was already on probation and he wasn't even supposed to be hunting."" If this was the case, why did the sheriff not check it out and carry that one in. Most of the sheriff deputies I know he would have a gone'r.....

Well I was trying to make a long story short Jag. That did happen. That's how we found out he was already on probabtion. After I had said I wouldn't press charges the sheriff said he needed to make an incident report. The sheriff asked for id and of course both said they didn't have any, said it was in the pickup. He said fine let's go back to your vehicle and get. Well then they had it. He ran their names and that's when the one guy came back as being on probabtion and wasn't even supposed to have a firearm and he didn't even have a hunting license. The other guy had a license and was ok.

CBD, Thanks "for the rest of the story". Very glad that all ended well.... again thanks for the story. I get to deal with this kind of stuff about once every two weeks, last time way yesterday. I will post it later, for there is room for thought.

CowboyDoc,

Did I miss something? After the deputy found out that the one guy was a probation violator(illegal firearm posession) what did he DO about it? That violation shouldn't have had anything to do with YOUR "pressing charges". /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif ??

skent,

Sigh..... I there with ya. I have the same problems and I think its just something you have to deal with if you have more than 5 acres of land. If you search through this forum you will see earlier discussions about all of this....

I ended up putting a large gate controlling access where I own both sides of the road. I really want the gate 400 feet or so down the road but I dont' own all the property. I have been able to limit the number of people trespassing but I still have some. Its a damned if you do damned if you don't problem that I hope will ease once we move out to the property. Its a damn shame that people don't respect your wishes or property but that is the way it is....

Posting the property and at least putting up a cable across the road will stop some people but you will certainly continue to have the problem......

Good Luck to us all! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Cowboydoc,

I sure hope you did not go down there unarmed!

I have always had this in the back of my mind so I don't conciously think about it but I view ALL the trespassers as a possible threat. I just posted a story of a landowner killed by a pot grower on his own property in another thread somewhere on TBN. This is not to say all trespassers are killers but you DON"T know who these people are, what they are doing on your property, why they are there, and if they are wanted by the law. Given that the guy was on probation and HE KNEW he was in trouble if he got caught you really don't know what that person will do. People have been killed over alot less.

My wife's uncle was killed during a "hunting" accident a couple of decades ago. He was killed when he came back to his parked vehicle and he was shot. The family thinks the person that shot him was caught breaking into his car but it could not be proven.....

People, be very careful about approaching trespassers, especially those that are armed. If you are doing so YOU had better be ready to defend yourself. If you don't have the knowledge, training, skill, to even get close to be somewhat safe in making such an approach, call the law. That is what the POice/Sheriff are there for. Let them handle the $%^&*(. I know its tough and the law may not get there in time but the results could be real bad. I worry about catching trespasser on my property. The ones I can see don't worry me. Its the one that went into the woods to piss, and I did not see, that worries me......

Be careful out there.....

Steve,

When we were looking for property I would often venture down private roads and sometimes past No Trepassing signs, usually feeling a little guilty about it. The one sign that did make me stop and turn around was "Private Road - Please Respect our Privacy." If someone doesn't respond to a polite request, they probably won't respond to threats (at least positively) .
