That is what I thought but to be sure I looked it up and didn't get full agreement.

I had looked it up before I posted and got the same definition as you did, but my JD operator's manual calls it a "story rod" and even has a line drawing of a guy using one.

Usually I like the dictionary better, but when it comes to guys operating backhoes and standing in trenches, I give the preference to Deere...

The ends of the upper wall still need a little attention, but for the most part this project is finally complete

That is really a terrific looking wall. I hope your trees survive, but my experience with postoaks is they do not like being disturbed. But what the heck, if the trees don't make it, you can plant some nice flowering shrubs on that lower level and give it some additional color. It is a swell job you did and a pleasure to look at.

A very elegant terrace to be sure. The surface aspect of the wall is very neat.
What sort of permit do you need to start building walls like that ?

That looks like a lot of work, and I am sure you are proud of it. It really looks nice. Much easier to mow flat ground , verses hills.

I think you should move the front wall out about a foot.
