I guess parking my tractor out front is out of the question.

In my HOASS ruled neighborhood, a shiny tractor out front would be a no-no; but a rusting hulk is considered yard-art and is OK.

Screw HOASS'es.

Thats the great part of living in the country. I have $250,000 to $500,000 homes on my 1 mile street and then there are also 2 single wide trailers and one modular. You can live like you want to. Most keep the homes up well with the exception of on of the trailer homes but its back off the road and in a wooded lot so who am I to say how he lives.

That's funny, I haven't seen or heard the word "hoopie" since my RD in college. Come to think about it he was from Beaver too.
Hoopie was my nickname during the college and post college car dealer days (thise were short lived, thank God) Been a Beaver Countian all my life...What part were you residing in?

Friend from college was from Beaver. Used Hoopie to refer to the small town the collgee was located in. I'm a little further east.

I get the idea about deed restrictions. But, those folks new what they were getting into. Too late to complain now

Wonder if he was referring to Geneva College...That's where I went to school...Beaver Falls.

Actually, I got the impression that the locals (beaver) used that term to refer to smaller town. Go figure.
Funny story, I met this very hot girl at a bar once. I asked her where she went to school. She said Penn State. I asked which campus. She said Beaver... Conversation went down hill from there.

Glad to be older & wiser, sort of

Yup, there's a Penn State Beaver here too along with CCBC and Geneva.

There are some pretty good looking women around here though. Not much else besides classic cars, tractors and pickups..Don't sell BC too short.

I'm a little older but certainly not wiser. I've noticed that the dumbest people I know are the happiest. I strive to be more like them every day.:D

Does that fall into the category of ignorance is bliss? :)

Remember the kid with cancer who lived in Florida? The HOA was suing to put his tree house down but after upheaval in the press they backed down. 1998 was it?

Morons, I could not live like that, ever.

I have a number of friends who live in gated communities, and it seems that those communities have the highest foreclosure rates. One friend lives in a "community" that is still mostly owned by the developer. Developer has hundreds of unimproved lots and gets a vote for each. Sales have gone to zero, and with so many foreclosures not paying HOA dues, they can't cover the HOA expenses. So what do they do, they make new rules every week. Leave your trash cans out overnight after pick up, $250 fine, leave your car on the street after midnight $250 fine, have a vehicle with ANY commercial advertising on it, $250 fine. You get the picture.

I think a lot of people have said screw it all, I'm out of here! Let the bank deal with the HOA.

Sorry for contributing to the hijack.

My brother bought a very small and old bungalow on a park, which was ruled by a homeowners association. He lived there 3 years, built a brick wall around the shabby woodwork, made a roof with a second floor on it and sold it with profit.
During the construction we were under constant harassment of the association lady, who wasnt used to anything and thought she needed to escort us on a bicycle, when we went there with a horse trailer to get some furniture to his house..

When we were moving him out, to the new house he built on the farm, she was getting crazier all the time, and freaked out when i didnt follow her escorte and went against one way traffic because on 8 foot wide roads, i couldnt back up the horse trailer into the lot from the traffic direction... When she started snarling that she was very angry at me, for not following her "directions" (she hardly knew how to handle her own backside, let alone direct traffic) i interrupted her rant and said that we were in a hurry to get the house empty, this saturday would be the day to hand the key to the new owner so she'll be rid of us for good.
Then she said some nasty things, about it being time... I said, behave yourself woman, just keep polite and endure this last day, its not as bad as you've convinced yourself.
She still didnt shut up so i told her if she didnt move over fast, i'll be as unpolite as her. Finally the coin dropped, and she left off quacking like a poked up chicken.. :D

Hah, my brother once had his friends over, they were all pissing next to the house after a couple of beers while smoking a cigarette outside. The neighbour (retired city people, like the rest of that park) was very curious and sneaked up in the dark into the branches to see the guests of my brother: Boy he allmost got wet :D :D

HOA's might be bad, but worst is when you live among retired functionaries: Even though they worked for the government all their lives, they really cant understand that some people have to WORK during daytime, to pay for THEIR retirement wages and health care...
