Don’t hesitate. This thing rocks. It’s built for seasonal use. I would not recommend for daily or even weekly use but for us southern folks who need to split would on occasion it fits the bill. Splitter comes pre-filled with hydraulic oil. Takes about 10 min to put together with one wrench size. Only negative is the unit sits very low. It will kill your back if you use it as built. I used it on my tailgate. Would probably recommend saw horses as well. Didn’t find a log she wouldn’t split. Used the better part of the morning. It cycles fast enough to grab and setup the next log.. Did I mention it’s under $300.00

I have oak on my property that laughs at a 27 ton splitter.... 5 ton may be good for soft woods though...

This toy has been discussed over and over again. It comes in various colors with various names including one version from HF. Some of us think it might have a use inside the house near the stove for that last split of chunks that are just a bit too big.

Ramsplitter HV16-4 16-Ton Horizontal / Vertical Electric Log Splitter
I bought one of these a few years back and love the fact that is is quiet, odor free and powerful but, it did, does have QC issues.
Basically, I have had the entire unit rebuilt as various parts and pieces failed and were repaired with stronger, better metal.
My welder friend is expert at his work, has done all the repairs and now the rig is pretty indestructible. YMMV.

^^^ $1,200 ????

I paid half that for my used 28 ton Huskee. New 20 ton gas models are generally under $900 in many places.

It may be OK if you're always in range of an outlet. Other wise you'd need a healthy generator to take it out in the field where the wood is.

I remember seeing one in the Grizzly catalog that seamed to be cheaper than I had ever seen for one of these small splitters. I've toyed with the idea of getting one to make kindling for starting a fire. Right now I just use a small axe. I think that the axe is faster so I always pass on getting one. But I also split my own wood so I make it close to the size I want. If I was buying split wood I could see a bigger need to split large stuff in half.

I yard all my firewood logs behind my workshop so I am always near an outlet.
I also rewired the motor to use 220 volts which increased the power
and decreased motor heat.

I use one of these: Manual Slide Log Splitter

Works better than you'd expect by looking at it. I've cracked some fairly big stuff. Weld between the shaft and wedge broke but that's been fixed now.

Kindling Cracker is the easiest way to make kindling.
