I bought a new post hole digger and sure am going through shear pins/bolts. The grade two that came with it were a real joke, they advertize a five year gear box warrenty, well with those bolts it would last forever. I went with grade five and even with the RPMs low and babying the dig, I,m still going through pins. The ground has a lot of rock, but is quite moist. Anyone else ran into this?

I have one, use it in sandy-loam-clay no problem, so I can't compare to your situation. Good news you have plenty of torque.

I'm running a Rhino SPHD in the limestone and clay in our part of KY. It uses custom stepped shear pins in the driveline--different than yours?. Haven't broken one in 3 years. I do cut just a few inches at a time, clear the waste, take a few more inches...

I bought a Fleet farm PHD that has shear pins for the safty feature. When I hit a big rock it pops them but handles anything softball size and down with no problems.

Well it went better today, I added more patience, I also found that if I didn't clear the hole as often it did a better job of bringing the rocks out of the hole. I used a Danuser before this with modifications which I think taught me some bad habits. The old girl bit the dust hooked to this new tractor. Foodplot the shear pins on this unit are 3/8ths by 3 inch bolts. Your unit is heavier than this one from what I gather from Rhinos site which dosen't say much. I'm east of Scottsville.

Bill good point "Good news you have plenty of torque". I went from a 1965 Allis Chalmers D10 1965 with 20 some pto hp to a 2007 Kubota M9540 with 84 pto hp.;) I better learn to hold the big girl back

Yep, You've likely got nearly as much power at idle with the Kubota as you did at full throttle with the old AC. Those shear pins are on there for a reason! ;)
