Try easing the clutch out while trying to move the lever out of low. If this works great, but if not you will have to take off the top plate of the transmission and see what is bent out of position or what is frozen up. If you are not comfortable with this go to a Deere dealer and get a manual for that model or have their mechanic repair it.

Be sure the tractor is in gear, you need the movement to allow the gears to mesh.

Is this correct/-------Tractor in gear (forward gear I assume) and clutch engaged. Release the clutch at same time trying to move the hi-lo lever. Also assume the tractor engine is not running.

I think he means tractor running, brakes engaged, clutch disengaged, trans in gear, slowly release clutch while gently urging the range lever into gear. Same advise shifting old square-cut-gear tranny into mesh (pre synchromesh).

Thank-you---sometimes it is hard for us 77 year old farmer wantabe's (former farmer) to know the language.

Yes, what jimmysisson said.

OK---Will let you know how it goes---have some amatuer mechanic relatives coming to the farm for Mem.Day. ---they get pretty intelligent after some adult beverages.

Don't lock the brakes when you try this, you need the movement for the gears to mesh. Move it out of the shed into the open.

Got the hi-lo lever to move to hi but it is real stiff. I did this with the tractor running, clutch disengaged, idle speed, and brakes off. It is so stiff I would only use lo-range. The tractor had been stored for some time (don't know exactly) so the stiffness will probably be permanent unless and easy solution appears.

Thanks for the help.
