But, it costs more money to build a reputation like RIDGID once had, then you can make off this junk there letting these illegitimate lumpenproletariat's pedal.

I get to have one of my favorite types of posts I can be the disagreeing minority. I have bought ridgid power tools for years and have been extremely satisfied with them. I started when I saw a warranty sign at home depot on the ridgid battery powered tool set. The set had a circular saw, hammerdrill
reciprocating saw and flashlight. The warranty said lifetime warranty on all parts including the battery. The set was 500.00 but I thought about how many times I had bought new drills because the batteries had worn out and it was cheaper to buy a new drill with batteries than just buy a battery. I used this set for a few years and then when I put one of the batteries on the charger it showed that it was bad. I called the nearest ridgid service center and they told me to bring in both batteries and the charger. I took them in and they said they would send everything in to get it checked out. When they called me to come pick up my stuff there was 2 new batteries, a new half hour charger. I have the ridgid mitre saw with the portable table, skill saws, cut off saws, table saw etc. I have never been anything but pleased with the quality and use of my ridgid products.

Have you read the posts in this forum?
This is not to debate about your or anyone else's level of satisfaction with RIDGID. I was perfectly satisfied with them a week ago. It is a an informative post about how they deceived me, and a warning to anyone who is possibly about to make the same mistake. If you would like to over look their unseemly practices and continue to to business with them, be my guest.

Ray, You and Gemini are talking at cross purposes. He is pointing out that his experience with Rigid brand power tools has been excellent and the customer service to be above and beyond.

While much of what you posted is based on your expectation of satisfaction in a warranty claim which has to date been improperly frustrated, nevertheless there was quite a lot of bashing about how Rigid used to be quality and isn't anymore.

Gemini just reported his experience which was indicative of good service and perhaps different from yours.

I have a Ridgid brand 6 1/8 inch jointer I bought from Home Depot about 10 years ago. It is not red-orange or plastic. It has served me well. I suspected at the time I bought it that it might not be "THE RIDGID" I recall from the good old days of RIDGID calandars and pipe threading tools. I suspect that it is just an OK quality import with the name Ridgid labeled on it.

While I am certainly glad my friend Gemini got good service from his Ridgid brand Home Depot sold tools, I was personally more than just a little suspicious that they were just wringing out all the value they could from the good old name when I saw all the Ridgid stuff on display.

I wish there were a way for you to easily even the score with Home Depot. Don't they have big signs attesting to a customer satisfaction policy? Could you take the set into a different HD and talk to the manager, knowing that a confrontational attitude will condemn you to failure.

Keep it simple.

I got these "recently" as a gift so I don't have a receipt but since it broke on the first use I suspect it was a defective drill, as I don't usually have a problem about drilling without breaking a bit. Can you exchange the set?

Lose the attitude. Don't let the manager see your protest sign until after you get the new bit. Then you can march back and forth in front of the store with your protest sign.

Oh by the way... the lousy customer service attitude is not an isolated event but you can find managers who are way better in these respects.

Harbor Freight takes a lot of guff from the quality mavens but any hand tool I have ever managed to have a problem with is cheerfully replaced with no receipt and no paperwork. I walk in with the tool and the cashier says to get another one. How could it get better without them driving out to my place to deliver the replacement?

Pat

I had to argue with a Home Depot associate over a Husky tool replacement. Same thing, HD said send it back to Husky when clearly it says on the package and on Husky's web site take it back to HD. I haven't read the whole thread, but I'd argue the point, it's a lifetime warrantee, you don't need a receipt, just like Sears.

Sears can be hard to deal with sometimes. Several years ago I bought a garage door opener from sears. I installed it & it opened the garage door fine for 2 days then, quit working. I took it back & the sales person said they would send it off to have it repaired. I told the salesman I didn't buy a repaired model opener ,I bought a new model & wanted another new model. The store mgr. over heard me argueing with the salesman & told the salesman to give me another new opener. That's what I call customer service. I left the store happy

Pat: If you or anyone else wants to start a thread about how great RIDGID is, be my guest.

As I said, I would have joined you a week ago. If you would have had my experience this week, and had to deal with their attitude, you would not be sticking up for them.

I am offering this advice to try to help those who want it, if you don't want the advice, don't take it.

Even if you had a guy on a street corner, selling dog do do on a stick, some one out there will be raving about how good it is. That does not mean it is not @#&%!

OK ray I have read the posts on here I actually read them before I wrote my post. I did what one of the previous posters said and read the ridgid warranty.

To be honest I dont know whether a drill bit fits into the hand tools category but I would guess it might. I would take it to a ridgid warranty center and see what they say. If they dont have one I would send the drill bit to the ridgid tool company. If you put it in a small box wont be much to send it. I would insure it against loss. After you have done that then you can see what ridgid does.

RIDGID Warranty

RIDGID branded tools are known the world over as best-in-class tools that allow the end-user to complete jobs more quickly and reliably.

However, there痴 added peace of mind with the RIDGID Full Lifetime Warranty. Should your tool ever malfunction from defects in workmanship or materials, we will repair or replace the tool free of charge.

What is Covered

RIDGID tools are warranted to be free of material and workmanship defects.

How Long Coverage Lasts

This warranty lasts for the lifetime of the RIDGID tool. Warranty coverage ends when the product becomes unusable for reasons other than defects in workmanship or material.

How to Obtain Service

To obtain the benefit of this warranty, deliver the complete product via prepaid transportation to Ridge Tool Company, Elyria, Ohio, or any authorized RIDGID Independent Service Center. Pipe wrenches and other hand tools should be returned to the place of purchase.

What We Will Do to Correct Problems

Warranted products will be repaired or replaced, at Ridge Tool痴 option, and returned at no charge; or, if after three attempts to repair or replace during the warranty period the product is still defective, you can elect to receive a full refund of your purchase price.

What is Not Covered

Failures due to misuse, abuse or normal wear and tear are not covered by this warranty. Ridge Tool shall not be responsible for any incidental or consequential damages

I assume part of the problem is trying to decide if the tool broke because of misuse or defective material. I am not in any way saying that you misused the drill. I am saying that people like me would never be able to get drills replace because I break them like a fiend because I misuse the heck out of them. HD would not have any method of telling whether it broke when someone like you that uses them correctly used it or someone like me which abuses them broke it.

As far as my post goes. Your post talked about how bad ridgid treats you on warranty repairs I have had a different experience and posted it. In regards to Home Depot if someone searches under my screen name on here they will find several posts from me on Home Depot let me just sum them up this way. If I could find anyone else in my area that sold RIDGID tools and BEHR paint I would never step foot in a Home Depot again in my life. But since I love my ridgid tools and since I cant stand LOWES paints. ( My wife and i work different shifts so weekends are the only times we have together to pick paint colors and most purely paint stores in this area are not open past saturday at noon.) I shop for those two items in Home Depot. If you want to hear a good story I would be glad to tell you about the problems I had buying a 3000.00 front door from Home Depot ( they were the only one that sold that particular door and my wife loved it)

Still not getting it.

The drill bits say on the package, FULL LIFETIME WARRANTY, (why I chose them), and according to RIDGID, ARE covered under warranty. RIDGID says NO PROBLEM, they will be replaced them free of charge. Just take them to HD with the receipt, (the real problem).
HD said they do not replace them, I have to go to a warranty center.
RIDGID SPECIFICALLY SAID, DO NOT TAKE THEM TO A WARRANTY CENTER. "The warranty centers do not have any drill bits to give me. They fix power tools".

The problem is:
The vendor that makes the driil bits, and puts the RIDGID name on them, requires a receipt for warranty replacement. And I got the drill bits for Christmas, so I do not have a receipt. The warranty does not say anywhere that a receipt is needed for warranty service, and RIDGID says they can not, and will NOT help me, (a once loyal customer).

The point is:

If you buy RIDGID, thinking your getting a RIDGID product, and RIDGID service, that is not always the case any more. They have sold the use of their name to some illegitimate manufacturers and will not help protect you, (their remaining loyal customer), or their reputation.

Yes, when I get ready to get further frustrated, I WILL try another HD, however in the mean time I am TRYING to warn others about this scam.

Yes, I actually do get it.

1. Your original post says to avoid the Ridgid Brand. I disagree with that post and have given my reasons

2. You have been doing emails with some body at ridgid. Quite frankly that is usually a waste of time the person doing the emails only has to tell you no and go about their buisness. If you want to do emails then get the address for the person that is at least a VP in sales and point out the cost of the drill bits versus the cost of advertising. The last problem I had with someone was armstrong ceiling tiles. The sent a person that did not have a clue what she was doing to evaluate the problem and told me that my celings were the problem not the tiles. I called sales and got a VP and told them why she did not know what she was doing ( my house has tongue and groove pine ceilings and she was saying I did not put furring strips up was the problem) I pointed out that they probably had less than 50.00 tied up in the tiles I had bought I on the other hand was prepared to write several letters to trade magazines that they advertised in detailing my problem and their lack of response. I was not sure how many thousands of dollars in sales that would cost him but it would be a lot more than 50.00. He asked me where I wanted the new boxes of tiles sent.

3. Sending the broken bits to ridgid means that they have to do something with them. They either have to send you the broken bits back or else they have to send you new ones. More than likely if they have to mail something back it is going to be new ones.

4. You can vent on this space and maybe feel better but still you have broken bits.

5. For me personallly someone having a problem with a drill bit will probably not stop me from buying ridgid tools.
