If it was for my mill ,id call WEBSTER ENGINEERING IN LEWISTON,or another one is a place called LANE supply.alan

Alan... Webster can hook me up no doubt, I use them now for my hydraulic hoses, they're less then a mile away from where I work. Problem is price...Specialty shops like that got what you need, at the cost to match :( I was hoping to get an offshore, surplus, or used gearbox...I'm trying to keep costs down to a minimum, this project is part "to prove a point" and partly because I want one..

What is the build? We are all interested!

I was waiting for that question, LOL....Honestly I'm looking to build a Power Rake. Part of the "point proving" I was referring to above is I'm wanting to prove there isnt 9k worth of parts & labor in one of these things. I'm at the point where the road forks....find a gearbox or I go hydraulic drive.

Thanks for that link Iron Horse!

Search under David Brown or reduction gear boxes, all kinds out there, not all that cheap (like maybe $4-500 is a guess for new) also in yellow pages.
I know that you can specify exactly shaft and RPM's.

Also you can come from PTO at rt angle at any speed, drive a shaft and furthur reduce using chain and sprockets to drive the rotating rake same as they do for snow blowers.
Sprocket and chain reduction is relatively cheap way to go and to change RPM's (since you are prototyping) is as simple as a new sprocket.

Thanks for the tips...
Yeah, your right, Sprocket & Chain reduction would be the way I'd go IF I werent up against a wall...Thing is I'm "limited" to the size sprocket on the Drum end...the bigger I go on the drum end, the less depth I can sink it into the ground.
To get reduction I need a small drive sprocket and large driven (drum end) sprocket...Would have been WAY easier if I wanted to increase speed :D

You could also use a jackshaft in your setup to reduce the speed... do most of the reduction between the gearbox and the jackshaft, and then do the final reduction from the jackshaft to the drum.

What final rpm are you looking for at the drum at 540 on the PTO?

Dave;
I'm done and waiting for the ground to soften up. 2k for the rake, $21.00 for the pivot material and some spare C channel. This machine is so new there was paint on the grease fittings and absolutely no wear on the roller teeth. The ram is from the tip and tilt that came with the TC 45 New Holland I had.
Started a new project, a loader for my 4110. Have the bucket almost complete and the loader upper frame. Now waiting for some plasma cut frame mounts that I sent in a pattern for.
I also came across a new 2 to 1 HD angle drive that will complete a flail mower I bought in pieces. I don't think winter will be long enough to get all this done.
Did you start the rake yet ?????

How about a bigger roller on the bottom? Scraperpan used a 6" roller.

I got that base covered... I've got a length of 8" Pipe for my roller..

Nice work on your angle setup BTW...I did JUST get my hands on a SWEEET 2:1 Right Angle Drive...honestly I think its a little TOO heavy duty (its quite large) but I think I'll still run with it...I didnt start actual assembly yet. Still getting parts together, etc... Because I'm not in a rush, I'm shopping around and getting great deals...true story, that gearbox I bought, sells for 1,200.00 at industrial supply houses...Got it for 24.99 on eBay, new in box, tags still on it saying "fill with oil before use"
Its coming good though, plans are all in my head...I got some cardboard templates made up, etc... I see no reason why I'm not using it this summer...

Dave, What diameter shafting are you going to use from the gearbox to the sidecover and then thru the roller? Please post some pictures when you start. Thanks
