Right size trailer for a L3240

Called my buddy who has a 2003 Yukon XL, same truck as the Suburban. He looked in his book for me and said if its a 5.3L it has a max of 8,100# if its 4 wheel drive and 8,400# if its 2 wheel drive. These are the max ratings. If you have lots of options it will take away from the tow rating. One thing he is to be careful of is the hitch itself. Make sure you observe the limits of it.

I remember GM running an ad a few years back aboutnewer Suburbans rated to tow in the 12,000lb range, but I think the newest versions may have been reduced to 9,300.

Don't know if you order your trailer yet, but you will never regret going with a gooseneck. If its in the budget add a foot or 2 & upgrade to the heaviest axles you can afford, 8K with G rated tires in this area usually only add about $500 & would keep your pucker factor down when full loaded.

I was assuming his truck was the 1500 series with the door sticker info he posted and all that year had the 5.3L I believe.
I believe that high tow rating was in the 2500 series 6.6L and 8.1L 2 wd. I have a friend that has a 6.6L 2500 2 wd and it does ok towing a 10,000# boat but nothing like our current trucks will do. He has been through 2 injector pumps and they sure are expensive but the truck has a 50 gallon tank and does 20mpg so it can be nice on long trips.
