Right Tool for Mowing Bumpy Ground - SCUT, Small CUT or ZTR

I think you'll find that a regular type Zero turn will ride about the same as your BX or your JD lawn tractor. A larger tractor like your DK with a larger wheelbase and width will give you a better ride. My CK35 gives a much better mowing ride than my old CK20, because it's just that much larger...
Pretty much. I have run non-suspension commercial ZTRs (60-72" eXmark Lazer Z and a 60" Huskvarna) and they ride slightly better than our BX2660 (but the ZTR at 10MPH feels like the BX at 8MPH). Our B7500 rides better than the BX and our L3830 rides better yet.

The Simplicy Broadmore and up the line(lawn tractors)have rear suspension. You don't have to go to a Zero turn to get suspension.

Be interesting to see just how good rear suspension only is. What about the front tires hitting a bump?
My Ferris Z's had front and rear. It was nice, but far from great..

I'm really disappointed in all you guys. Here I am trying to work up a good excuse to buy another tractor or mower, and y'all are telling me to just use what I have.

Ok, if you want to spend some dollars, buy this: Toro | Groundsmaster® 360 Quad-Steer

I'm working up an excuse to buy a front deck husky articulated mower, decks are small, but its only for the front lawn and to get around the fence. You need a new mower, thats for sure

I have a 2.5 acre lot that I own, where I intend to eventually build a home. I've been mowing it with a John Deere GT235 garden tractor. But the ground has crawdad mounds and holes where my neighbor's cows clomped around when it was wet, and it's a rough ride on my GT.

The property is a mix of about 20% bermuda and 80% johnson grass and weeds.

I'm trying to decide whether the right tool for mowing it is a BX, a B or a ZTR. I'd really like to have a ZTR, but I'm afraid the rough ground will beat it to death. I'm not sure a BX will ride any better, though, since they have small wheels also.

Also, does a front-mount ZTR ride any better than a mid-mount on rough ground?

Footnote: I have a Kioti DK50 and a BX23 at my 30 acre property, but this 2.5 acres is not close enough to my 30 acres to trailer one of those tractors to the 2.5 acres every couple of weeks.

The right tool for your project is a 6-ft wide tandem disc (3 pt hitch mounted) and a DIY drag attached to the disc (chain link fence, chains, pipe, weights (old tires, concrete blocks, etc)). Make several passes over your 2.5 acres to smooth out the bumps. Then plant a cover crop of your favorite grass mix or let the native grasses re-establish themselves. Then mow it with your riding mower or whatever you decide to buy.

Good luck.

Before I went through all that, I'd rent a harley rake. Ready to plant seed bed in no time at all. Just have to hope his neighbors cows don't get out again.

The OP is correct about the crawfish mounds, they keep getting rougher and rougher and about all you can do is keep rolling them down when it is wet. I have about half my mowing acreage that is crawfish infested and I swear, it gets rougher each time I mow.

My preference is to mow with my Ferris IS700Z that I have installed a cheapo Agri-supply suspension seat. I had it on a lawn tractor that I sold so it was just sitting on the shelf collecting dust. The spring suspension is not as great as an air ride seat but it does help a bit and the Ferris suspension is for sure much better than any other mower or tractor when it comes to ride..
