rim splitter/crusher

I wanted to say thanks to all in the Hyd forum with the questions I had concerning this build,here are some pics of it ... still a work in progress kinda . Three weeks ago I scavanged a old home built splitter and a bunch of other parts off of CL for $300 .00 motor was junk and as it turned out the hyd pump also .. My original intent was to make a ss qa splitter out of it but reconsidered that idea for this build. I used an old propane tank for the hyd res. , an old 11 hp b&s vert.shaft out of an old rider Lawn mower I had ,the Hyd. cyl. came with it 4.5 x 28 x1.75 tie rod .I had to reinforce the I beam as the 5/16 or 3/8" flange was bending so I added another 1/2" to it.welded up a new push plate/ram and I also Put a 16gpm 2 stage from surplus center ($135.) on it, so for under $500 it really does the job...oh and it has lights too:thumbsup:

So you can recycle/scrap the steel rims. The crushed rims allow you to remove the tire more easily/quickly.

Concidered this for some time but our new contracts for this year included leaving tires in the cars so we are good now, Looks good.

I ran one of these years ago. It had 3 rams with a wedge on the end of each ram. The 3 rams sat in a triangle shape around the perimeter of the tire. When you hit the lever, all 3 rams would start to crush the tire and then the rim.

I'm not sure how well your design would work. The 3-ram design resulted in a rim that was crushed to the point where the tire easily lifted free of the rim.
