Funny how people are so reluctant to speak ill of the dead.

I can't think of a single politician who "deserves respect". And if in some ways, they mess it up in others. Our Late Toronto Mayor Rob Ford Comes to mind.

We have allowed our government to become more about power and its related prestige rather than leadership...these days the politics overshadow achievements...

We (general electorate) do not seek candidates for their leadership ability we choose them for their political marketability...

This comment
“When the word moderation becomes a dirty word, we have some soul searching to do,” he wrote a friend in 1964, after losing his first bid for elective office.
shows a viewpoint which I feel deserves respect.
We have gotten away from this way of thinking about those who we choose to represent us; and all too often in our personal viewpoints.

Furthermore, I was taught "Ifyou can's say something nice about a person not to say anything at all"; which is why I remain quiet when somebody who I don't respect dies. Let them have their moment.

Correct, we elect them, we should do a better job at coming up with job requirements.
