Well, I thought I'd update what I've done and attach (what turned out to be very crappy) a picture.
I took the advice here & put it to the wife. At first I got a thumbs down on removing the first joist near left wall. We finally decided to move it inward about six inches inward and I then cut the plywood down that side to open it up agaisnt the wall.
What that did was allow for an open area all along that wall. I'll now not have any moisture being held issues. I won't have any issues with the copper pipe going up the wall to the fireplace.
We just had a pretty nasty storm and nary a drop showed its face on that side so it seems the four foot overhang really is my best initial defense.
Took it up to the top and put some copper flashing there. I originally had aluminum but she wanted it to look pretter if it was even remotely possible that anyone would see it.
Other than perhaps a dripcap (do I really need one?), I think I'm done with the roof (pending her inspection /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif)
After this is done, it's on to wiring some fans in there and also some lights.
She also said she might want some speakers out here... hmmm... I'd not thought of that.
