Rising fuel prices...

   / Rising fuel prices... #21
On the way home yesterday We stoped in a small town to get a bite to eat. The 7-11/ Citgo was $1.79 for Diesel. 1/10 th of a mile down at a BP it was $1.51. I guess they have progressive priceing there. Premium is over $2.00 a gallon most places here now. Lets hope it goes back down after labor day. Dave

We have gone up 20 cents this week. Looks like they are on the rise everywhere, but here in Utah we have been hit a bit hard. There was a pipeline problem in Arizona a week or so ago, so our local refineries have been sending some of our production there to fill the gap. That's caused prices here to really take a sharp jump.

The Feral Gummit is slowly eating us poh folks up.

I read in the paper that the "blackout" closed 4 refineries for a time. I personally know of 2, BP in Oregon, Ohio and Amoco in Ecorse, Mich.

It seems like about the time we get on the road to economic recovery, we get to take a detour. Rising fuel prices will do nothing to spur the economy, it will cause a downturn.

I also keep reading in the paper about the "cause of the blackout". Various entities are pointing fingers at each other.

I have the "likely" scenario as to why the power went out....

A UFO was running low on fuel and needed a quick fill up so they hovered over a large transmission line and "sucked" the electrical fuel into their storage unit. After the UFO sucked the lines dry, they went back home on a free ride!!!

I think my scenario is probably as viable as any that will be reported by the various agencies that are spending a gob of taxpayer money trying to find the elusive cause. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Does anyone else have any thoughts about the UFO scenario? I figure that the Feral Gummit is looking for a good excuse, the UFO scenario is a good one don't you think?

FiveString:

Time to park that gas or diesel guzzler and drive the economy car or truck. Better yet, bicycle

My '99 Western Star has the electronically controlled 3406-E 550 motor. When I first got the truck, I had the technician enable the auto shutdown feature. All my friends thought I was nuts, but in the long run, it has reduced my fuel consumption by about 7%. When you put in 100 to 150 gallons of diesel every 2 days, the savings add up. Besides, an idiling a diesel engine for long periods is hard internally on it.
