I know all of you have seen farmers leave tractors and equipment outside.. sometimes in a field w/ no buildings or trees around. One of the reasons is to have access to one tractor in case of building collapse. My dad had a tobacco barn get hit.. pieces strown out as far as you could see.. it took chainsaws & a tractor w/ an FEL to un-bury the equipment stored there. A friend of the family who lives close by.. woke up one snowy morning to find his barn had collapsed that night. He had his new Kubota in there.

0900L conf call: no significant change from earlier - same pressure & wind & direction. There will be another plane sometime this a.m. but they don't anticipate much change. Keep in mind this thing is still a cat 4 - we talk about it decreasing ... FROM A CAT 5 ... If it had never reached 5 to start with - we'd be talking about it building to a cat 4 and going "oh my" it's getting strong" Just 'cause it has decreased from what it was doesn't mean it isn't still a monster. It's just a 4 headed one instead of a 5 headed /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
I've spent my morning thus far doing houskeeping. It amazes me ...how many people can't seem to clean after themselves or take care of themselves. They must all live with thier mothers or married to someone for that. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif It's like they feel they're too good to empty their own trash... or too lazy.

That is why I plan to park vehicles and tractor out in the middle of the front field. I think that this is smart even though our chances of seeing Hurricane force winds are low now with the eastward shifts in the projected track. Been out doing some of the last minute tasks. Winds are light now but will build during the day with some showers posssibly occuring this afternoon. Got my tool batteries on charge now to use in flashlights that take them. Better than "C's" and "D's".

After prep is all done all you can do is sit back and relax until after it is over. I was born in Houston and lived there or close by for most of my life. Been through a lot of hurricanes in that time but when I retired wanted to get out of the coastal areas. The few years I was in Austin,TX, Carla came through.

Yep. Same way around here. Especially with coffee pot. Company supplies free coffee. Outside vendor installed brew machines plumbed into the water line. Coffee comes prepackaged. All it takes is less than one minute to open a package, dump it in, and push the brew button. But it is unreal how many times you find the pot with dregs cooking in the bottom and coffee/sugar/cream spilled all over the counter top. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

About 4 miles down the road there is an assisted living center call Brighton Gardens.

24 have died this morning.

They were on an evacuating bus going up Interstate 45 near Wilmer Texas just outside Dallas.

Initial reports say that the brakes caught on fire and spread quickly with all the oxygen on the bus.

Very sad..........

The Texas Medical Center experienced devastation floods during Tropical Storm Allison. After weeks of pumping out water from their basement all the older hospitals and the new construction have installed floodgates. Today before noon they were raising them. Here is a flood gate being raised at the MD Anderson Cancer Center.
