While mowing the yard this spring we found a road kill deer in the front yard. I drug it to the woods (downwind) and set up the game camera. Between the vultures and the coyote they reduced the deer to fur and bones in six days. The vultures did the majority of the work. I only got a couple of pics of the coyote. We have both turkey and black vultures in this area.

A girl that I lived with in the late 80's told me that her father drove an interstate Bus when she was growing up. (the 60's) She said that he always took a tarp with him an if he came upon a fresh road kill deer he would wrap it in the tarp, put it in the luggage hold and bring it home.
I knew him, he was resourceful!

Shoot, those critters sure are SLOW!

My wife got an Eight Point Buck a few years ago! :D

Unfortunately, it was with the car.:eek::rolleyes:

Fortunately, she was not hurt. The car took $900 worth of damage when she ran OVER the buck and one of his antlers took out the radiator.

The deer was still alive in the few minutes it took me to get 2.5 miles to her. One man in a pickup had already stopped to ask for the deer. That deer was NOT even dead yet. The wifey said no until she asked what I wanted to do with the almost dead and certainly tenderized deer. :D As we were looking at the damage another guy showed up and asked for the deer. That deer had just died when we loaded it into the truck and he took off.

Shoot. Put up a time lapsed camera on a road kill around here and you will get one image before that deer is gone!:laughing::laughing: Maybe!

Around here, I don't think it takes six days for the buzzards, foxes, and coyotes to removed the deer. They get it done in a 2-3 days. We do have a lot of buzzards that stay here 365 days a year.

Later,
Dan

Shucks, I was expecting recipes.

I have butchered several road killed deer, expect 50% loss. The side hit is mostly blood clot and not very appetizing. Still better then feeding the possums
