All these cold weather starting problems, has anyone considered installing an electric clutch?

These pumps are direct coupled to the engine, they are running all the time.

I do have one pump that is ran of the fan belt , and that could have an electric clutch. I think that I have the only one like this.

I don't have any starting problems here in Florida.

We all wish that we didn't have to run that PTO pump all the time, but that is the way PT designed it. It is a pump wearing itself doing nothing most of the time, knowing that we are pumping all those small particles smaller than 10 microns through the complete system slowly grinding those wear plates, etc.

Wayne Co. Hose...if you are ever travelling through Lycoming County let me know, you can have all day with my 422(I'll bet you would be done in a little over an hour!) and I'll be happy to make your drawings available here....heck, you can even cut my grass and muck out the stalls, no charge of course!

I see there is a thread for a central Pa get together. I've been thinking about it, but I'm just starting to build our house, so I really can't commit to anything. Maybe if I do go, and you're not too far away, I wouldn't mind seeing one of these things. And, shoveling poop will bring back old memories. When I was on the farm, the barn cleaner was me.

Down in "Regional Forums", look in "Northeast", there is a thread about a central Pa get together.

Should have updated this a while back, but forgot, sorry guys.
Well, had to buy a new carburetor and solennoid valve!

The solenoid valve must have vibrated loose and because of that it "wobbled" and elongated the hole that it goes into the carb.

After replacing the carb & solenoid it started fine (and no more smell of gas), though on cold days it still takes longer than any other engine I have, or have owned to start up.

Dear Idabe,

Yeah!!!! Congratulations! I am glad to hear you found the gas leak. Smelling gas is never good.

All the best,

Peter
