Mike:

How do you like the wide, grapple arms compared to the more traditional narrow ones? Somehow they look like they could take more abuse than the narrower ones.

Does the width impair visibility, or are they spaced far enough apart so it is not an issue?

I am thinking that a rock bucket with grapples and digging teeth would be almost as good as a root grapple.

I want both attachments, but can only justify one, especially if the rock bucket with grapples and teeth is almost as good as the root grapple. I suspect I am going to spend more time separating rocks than moving brush and can accept lower efficiency in moving the brush.

No, it is sold by Andy Tatro and I adapted it to the rock bucket. I welded up a mounting beam and then used u-bolts to attach it to the rock bucket. S-Houle does sell a grapple, but it's not like this little simple one. Consider this about the wide grapple. I can close the grapple to hold a rock or rocks and still have room on each side to dig and pick up more rocks. If the grapple was the full width of the bucket, I could not do this because the grapple would get in the way when it is closed. I do this pretty often when I'm getting two or three medium sized rocks in the bucket.

Curlydave, the visibility through the rock bucket tines is something you will love. Visibility is also a big issue with me. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Dave - visibility must not be an issue - cause I haven't noticed any problem - course I use it for brush mainly, and to pick up an occasional cattle guard. (txdon bought one from my FIL - I moved it for him - used that grapple just like a hand - grabbed the cattleguard, picked it straight up - backed the trailer under it, and set it down ---too cool) Digging roots and small stumps I use the center of the bucket between the grapples so again - no problem. I can see where the tines on the root grapple are too far apart for rocks so your choice of rock bucket with grapple sounds like a good one for your purposes. Will you add a toothbar to that rock bucket then? If it'll take one that should work well. Maybe Unlimited would customize the bucket for you as you want it. They don't make 'em til they have an order for one - then turn it out in a couple of days. BTW --- my first assignment with the NWS was at Medford - the radar is on top of Ashland -- hated driving that snowcat up that mountain in winter ....Texas for me forever.

Their web site says they can add teeth to the bucket.

For me that is the way to go.
