rocks and stumps

The old car hood as mentioned above works great - I have dragged rocks using this technique that would NOT drag on their own - it significantly reduces the resistance.

Then there's the issue of getting that big stump or boulder dug out but can't get it out of the hole . Put a bucket of the dirt you dug out BACK INTO THE HOLE. Now rock the boulder/stump back and forth with the FEL or BH. Add another scoop of dirt and rock again. Bit by bit the large object will raise out of the hole as the loose dirt fills in below it when you rock it. Soon (or eventually) you will get it up high enough to roll or skid away.

i remember my father using a tool called a "johnson bar" . i swear he could move a truck box with that thing, along with a few steel pipes as rollers. i got the rock out of its hole using a long steel pipe. amazing what those things can do. gotta find a hood to drag it though. thanks again

Pallet forks work great. Here's one a dug up today. I was able to drag it out of the hole with backhoe. Then I was able to get the forks under it.

thanks for all the advise. i like the idea of the stone boat, will look into it. being a car guy all my life i was alittle leary about getting the tractor all scratched up. do you guy's still cringe when you hear that loud scrape?

Only if it's coming from other than the bucket.

Some of the BXs are now showing up with Kubota OEM skid plates. If yours doesn't have one, you can get your dealer to order it.
*It's inexpensive at $35, but doesn't seem too robust and won't protect from a punctured HST filter.
