That's odd....on my way home yesterday I was thinking the exact same thing & was pondering which material to use. Styrofoam, closed cell, some kind of wrap material...........

Marine sound deadening material is basically closed cell foam around lead sheet as a sandwich. That stuff is not cheap but is very effective at reducing engine noise. Comes in half inch and one inch thickness and is rated for about 20-40% noise reduction in an engine room environment. Not sure how that would translate on a tractor where you are really just trying to stop reflected noise from the top cover.

I got the roof spot welded on today, primed & painted the welds & took it for a brush hog test run. At 2200 rpm with the pto engaged I get a pretty good oscilliation of the 1/8 tread plate along both sides making quite a bit of racket. My welds were over 12" apart & I could feel the plate vibrating 3" on both sides of each weld. It looks like I need to go back and re-weld it every 3" down both sides outside and inside.

If you have any roofing Ice shield Its a heavy tar based product and would do the trick.:thumbsup:

Welds every 3-4 inches inside & out stopped the vibration(s). I have speakers and a abs radio housing on the way from fleabay. I will check the local pawn shop for a car stereo, Radio Shack for an antenna & the flea market for a rigging light.
It gets a full day test run tomorrow cutting 21 ac of hay.......

I cut all 3 fields tedder'd them yesterday & baled 9 ac today. Had a little rain while cutting & stayed totally dry! I am now getting the front leading edge of the roof to vibrate at operating rpm. More welds are in order & maybe some gussets out to the leading edge. I got a sheet of 1/2 closed cell foam that will be going in the middle of the roof between the 2x2 supports. Then a piece of 3/4 ply over that. The radio housing will screw to the ply as will the speakers. I decided to get a Pyle radio off Amazon for $33 that has a Fm tuner and a USB port as a cd would vibrate itself to death in a short time.
