Did you try to rotate the engine both directions? If it were oil in the cyl it should turn back some. Did you try to turn it with the starter out? Maybe it was stuck engaged into the flywheel preventing the engine from spinning. Hope you figure it out soon and no real damage was done.

PLEASE DON'T GET MAD AT ME you better pull the head she could have filled with fuel and when she went over just that time going over if one piston comes up against the 2500 psi those injectors are pumping she could have bent a rod or rods . it has been done before.

#1 check to see if something is not jambed between front pulley and block.
#2 You say the starter was a problem were there any parts broken off the starter and or ring gear that is jambing between block and flywheel is there an inspection plate that you can take off to see in there?
#3 if every thing looks good up to this point remove the oil pan and check the oil pickup some are a hinge type and if it goes over center it could be jambed in there with a conn. rod or crank.

I dont know if this engine was ever apart before or someone dropped something in the oil filler but there could be a bolt or other foreign object that got caught in the timing gear train.

Do pull the valve cover! We have found some when rolled that actually bent the push rods and allowed the valves to be hitting on the top of the pistons, this was from one that actually ran long enough after the roll over that it broke the front of the cam off!

Your hydro has no pressure to do anything if the engine isn't running!

I don't see how enough fuel could go thru the injectors to flood the cyclinders.

I forgot to say, I rolled my KX121-3 this summer...all the way over and not just a flop over. Very scary. I turned it off as I was going over and then when I got it up right i started right away....but no hyd.s. I was scared, thought I f'd something up. Waited about 2 hours and it was back to normal.

I second what egon said, let it sit. Dont take much to hydo lock. a good piston bore fit. Have flopped foresty equipment rite up on there lids. We just upright them, and make sure there stable then If they have been over for a couple hours, let'em sit for a couple hours. And BY HAND turn over engine 1/8 or 1/4 turns till you can get 3/4 or one full turn. Engine mortality has been very good doing it this way, not loosing a single engine. Sadly can not speak the same for some unfortunate operators.

......the starter engages but no turning of the motor....
Does the starter motor run? or does it stall ? If it stalls, is the battery level ok? You may be way past these square-one questions.

If you take the glow plugs out and CAREFULLY turn it with a socket on the flywheel you SHOULD be able to FEEL if there is any valve/piston interference.
If you cannot turn it with a wrench on the flywheel (front pulley) with the glow plugs out then I would assume MAJOR internal damage.
Damage of the kind that you probably can't make any worse.

Anyway, IF it turns over with a wrench I guess the next thing is to check that you have adequate oil in the crankcase - could have lost enough to be a problem.
Then I would spin it a LOT with the glow plugs still out to clear the cylinders, this isn't hard on the starter, since there is essentially no compression.

Good luck and... I meant to say this FIRST !
PLEASED you made it out OK, rollovers can be fatal.

I'm no mechanic, but could it be hydraulic lock from coolant getting into the cylinders? The only thing about that is if you crank it in this condition, you could have caused severe engine damage as the coolant won't compress. Hope it's something simple.

Bingo....... that is my bet. hydrolock.
