Breaking a leg is sure no picnic, especially when you're 94. But he could have been crushed by the tractor, so I'd say he was very lucky. I sure hope he is able to get back on his feet soon.

The only time my HST tractor is in neutral is when I start it. There are no switches that kill the tractor when you get out of the seat. I always leave it in "gear" when I get off for whatever reason. I actually had not given it any thought until now, but freewheeling would seem to be more dangerous than the prospects of an HST malfunction that would cause the tractor to move without pressure to the pedal.

You must have been terrified watching the accident.

You can tell you Grandad that he is one helluva lucky old cogger. He's lucky to be alive after that flip. Don't worry, he'll be back in the seat before you know it. Good luck to his speedy recovery.

Grandpa is back home in Oregon now. My uncle is staying with him for now.

I took the tractor to the dealer today for diagnosis/estimates. See the Parts/Repair forum for details.

I took the family down to Oregon this last weekend to visit Grandpa, and to pick up our new cider press.

Grandpa's scootin' around the house pretty well now, on walker and wheelchair. He is doing a little of his own microwave cooking too. While I was there, he phoned two of his "girlfriends" and checked his email once. He still needs help taking off his socks, and needs someone to drive him around the house to the lower level to get to the shower when he doesn't feel like taking a bath upstairs.

He was happy to see the great-grandkids, although he seemed a little depressed, and wondered out loud to me why he is still on this earth... I told him it was obvious that God wanted him around for some good reason, like being an ispiration to the rest of us.

But all in all, I hope I am in that good of shape when I am 94! I have attached a picture of a sunset taken from my Grandpa's dining room window. Maybe this is why he is living so long!

Glad your gramps is back home and doing well, it is quite beautiful up here that has its own healing properties. My father had an accident last year and I know how hard it can be on the whole family. My best wishes to your family and your grampa is a lucky man to have you taking care of him....
