Is it just me or are the roma's the best tasting tomatos for just eating? Used to think the beef steaks were the best but not any more. I love to keep them in the fridge and grab a few and a salt shaker for a snack.
I think grape or cherry tomatoes usually have the best taste, but it's hard to slice them for your sandwich. This year my Early Girls have produced some of the tastiest tomatoes ever. I suspect it has something to do with soil chemistry also.
Yeah Romas are very good I usually grow a few but this year I have a rogue turtle that has bitten off more than his share and I am not unreasonable he can have a few he just isn't leaving me much.
I like Roma's, but still a favorite is beefsteak on wheat bread with a little mayo.
I wonder now and then, what Italian food was like without tomatoes. They are a New World veg/fruit. Imagine pizza without red sauce, spaghetti without that nice red tomato sauce... The "Old World" did not have tomatoes and some of the other veggies till after Columbus came over here...
My bet is regional conditions have a great deal to do with what is best in flavor. Here Better Boys have been the winner for us and we have had a great crop this year. Hate to think in a few months maters will be gone.
