Rotary cutter for BX 1860

I have some areas of my property that make me wince when I mow with my MMM...very rough, rocks, etc. I'm thinking of a bush hog type mower for my BX 1860. I've looked at TSC "County Line" 48" (made in India, I believe), $879. I visited my dealer today and looked at the Landpride RCR 1548, quoted $1495 with slipclutch....almost twice as much. Is it worth it?

That's a horrible price spread, to be sure.

When I was pricing an RFM, I kind of went through the same conundrum. I settled on something in between. I bought a Sicma/First Choice/Phoenix. The mower is marketed under all these names, plus, Kioti uses it as the OEM mower. It is made in Italy, like many fine mowers are.

Not trying to sell you on that brand, just trying to say that you might find you don't have to "settle" for a cheapo, off brand unit and not have to spring for the top of the line either.

Not sure Simca makes a bush hog/ rotary cutter. The Kioti rotary cutter is made by Tarter. Not real great. Like the King Kutter. As far as the L.P. vs. the County Line, yes it will be twice the mower. The county line is King Kutter's "cheap" line, so it is a step under the std. K.K.. Differences such as deck gauge, construction and probably even blade thickness. Definitely a difference in gearboxes, softer gears, smaller gears?

So you are at least 2 steps under the L.P.. The first time you need a part or hit a BIG rock and do something to that gearbox, you might wish you had gone w/ a leading brand Remember, lowest price is not always the best. You get what you pay for!

Another to consider is the King Kutter, the XB version which will work on the limited Cat 1 hitch used on the BX's. That's $1060 on Everyattachements.

I don't have it, but have two other XB attachments from King Kutter (tiller and box blade) and have been pleased with both. The XB line is made for the subcompacts with the limited Cat 1 hitch and are painted Kubota orange!

Keep an eye out on your local Craigslist....however, 48" cutters aren't too common (at least around here, central PA).

I have a LandPride 42" that I used behind my BX22. It has been used a total of 4 times. You can have it for 700.00 if you want it. I now have a L3700 that it is way to small for.

Well, that was quick. I've agreed to purchase Tomtint's mower; headed down tomorrow to pick it up.
