I have the same land pride cutter 1860 I pull behind my L3200DT no problems pulling and a great cutter !
The only problem I've had has been the gearbox plug at the back rusting through and leaking. Replaced that a year ago.

Sean you got me thinking so went and checked where I keep that type of stuff in shop and thought I had and did an extra gear box vent plug my SQ172 came with. The original still on there.

HI, I am assembling a package of implements to include with a pending tractor purchase (45-50hp). Was looking at bushhogs available locally: LP RCR 1872, or LP RCF 2072. I am at a loss to see the difference bw the two, except that one appears to be floating top link (RCF), and the other not. Can anyone shed some light on this for me, and perhaps explain the difference in function bw the two? I will be cutting some coarse fields and smaller underbrush....when I eventually select a tractor...but that's for another thread, thx!

2things I noticed about the 2072 over the 1872.

The 2072 has a smooth top which will make it much easier to clean trash off the deck. The other is the deck height. The 2072 is over 2 inches taller which will allow it to handle heavier cutting conditions before it starts to choke down. With you saying your plan is to cut course fields I would think the 2072 would be the best cutter for your needs.

I have the 1860 cutter and have been happy with it in general for 4 years now.
The top link floats on mine, which allows the back of the cutter to follow terrain without lifting the front of the cutter and changing cut height. Nice feature.
Cleaning isn't a big job, 5 minutes with a broom or brush. Check the deck thickness, the 20 series may be heavier material.

Thank you Bulldog and Chilly, very helpful!
So, without the toplink floating, does that mean the 2072 will not follow terrain, or if it does, how? Does that put alot more pressure on the rear tailwheel? Is that of practical difference over (small)rocky/brushy terrain? Looking for the finer points from people who know...thx

The 2072 has a floating top link also. It's just made different from the 1872 model. From what I have read the 2072 has everything the 1872 does and then some.

I also have a Land Pride 1860 for my L3400 and it is well matched in size to the tractor (L3400 is same physical size as L3800) and is a nice heavy unit.

Having a flexible toplink is definitely an advantage, some folks simply use a length of chain although there are some safety concerns with that method depending on who you listen to. I think the biggest benefit is when you're cutting over uneven ground, small dips and rises. The front of the cutter follows the height of your lift arms while the tailwheel is mostly independent of the front. If you go over too high a crest the wheel will lift as the top linkage comes tight, it's better at low spots.
