rotary pump & filter? / fuel dribble?

   / rotary pump & filter? / fuel dribble? #11
I use a 'el cheepo' hand crank barrel pump fitted to a 20 gal industriel plastic drum mounted on a 2 wheel hand cart.
That hand crank is plenty fast enough and easy to turn.
Reversing the crank WILL empty the feed line back into the drum! (you hear bubbles when line is empty) Just hold the filler hose high while cranking backwards!
Sure , I would not want to crank fill a CAT D8, but for most CUTS I think they are a fine solution.
The biggest chalange is adapting the pump to other than a standard barrel 'bung' and finding suitable hose or fill line.
The hose need to be very flexible and fuel proof.

The pump is rated for 10 gallons per 100 revolutions but it seems alot faster than that.
1*I bought a rotary pump from tughill for $160.00 but I'll tell you it was well worth the extra money.
2*I just filled it ~ (the caddy)

1*At this price I thought it was an electric pump.
Why didn't you go for an electric pump?
2*Did you fill it with off road fuel ?
3*What's challenging about it ?
4*I bought 1/2 inch fuel line hose at an auto parts store for my set up.
I didn't want the bigger bulkier stiffer 5/8 3/4 or inch stuff.

*I solved that with this:

I went with a rotary pump for a few reasons,I only use diesel for my 2305, I can't get a distributer to deliver less than 100 gallons, so i need to get it myself and the pump stays mounted to the tank.If needed I could transport and fuel any where without worry about electric or battery.I have a overhead hoist in my garage and my tank is mounted to a removeable dolly for transport, I'm only handily the fuel once.I believe spending the extra money for a good quality pump will pay for itself along down the road. Mounting the pump wasn't any challenge just welded a 2'' pipe coupling to the top of tank. I guest using plastic versa heavy gauge steel would be a challenge to work with.

Like you and most others my first inclination was to make the rig portable with the idea of transporting it to the tractor to fill the tractor.
This thought stuck in my mind until it dawned on me it was a lot simpler to drive the tractor to the rig.
Building it portable also created these obstacles for me.
How do I load it on the pick up to take it for filling and how do I get the filled unit off the truck after I got back home with it?
Going with a stationary set up eliminated all those issue for me.
I don't need any tractor dolly hoist ramps dock forks etc because there is absolutely no handling of drums or tanks of fuel involved.

1*didn't because I couldn't be at the pump cranking it and at the tractor tank watching that I didn't overfill it at the same time.
2*I use it in my BX23 and the 2 BX1500s.
3*I can't either if I call and say bring me 55 gallon of fuel tomorrow but I can if call them and say stop by and fill up my 55 gallon drum the next time you're in my area.
How you word your order makes all the difference in the world.
4*If I go get fuel my whole rig stays here. I just take the 55 gallon transport drum .
5*That's quite true but it wasn't worth the trade off for me.
6*I don't have that so I built my system to work well without one.
7*But how did you get the suction hose/tube down through the 2'' coupling?
8* plastic or steel is not the issue.
The problem is plumbing the suction tube or suction hose down through the 2 inch opening its still the same deal with either plastic or steel drums/tanks.

I'm not using this rig to transport fuel to my tractor its just an option, if ever needed.46 gallons will last me quite awhile,or I would have used larger bore pipe to hold more already knowing the fuel company had a 100 gallon minimum delivery. The pump I bought has a 2'' male end tapped for 1'' to screw in the stainless steel suction pipe. My 1'' rubber not to bulky discharge hose has a regular automatic shut off nozzle on it.So I don't need to stay right by my tractor. Everybody has different ideas, this one suits my needs just like your set up suits yours.

Isn't it great there is more than one way to skin a cat!

The nice thing about TBN is it's a place we can all gather together to share ideas and experiences which allows many to benefit from reading the many and varied post.

Just think how boring this place would if we were all like minded and all had the same things to post.

Do you get on road or off road fuel from that distributor ?

*I solved that with this:

The 20 gal industrial drum did not have a standard thread of any kind so a welded pipe thread adaptor was not possible. (I do weld and have lots of pipe adaptors)
Only other option would have been to machine a matching cap.
Also did not want to modify the origional cap as I need that to transport my reservoir drum (caddy) when I fill up.

My solution was a length of 2" ABS pipe that I cut 4 slits about 4" long and stuff into the drum hole. The fit is nice and snug, so much so that cranking will not loosen it.
The adaptor to pump was straight forward.
For waterproofing the connection I wrap an innertube rubber 'skirt' around the barrel pump body bottom with a hose clamp.
Filtering at the tractor entry furthur assures me of uncontaminated fuel.
This has been in use for 3 years now!
