Darn, I'd hope all ya'll in norte tejas had noticed that it took me going to Arizona to suck all that wet weather west..........

It seems the wipers were on at least once a day east of the Arizona border. And they stayed on the third of November from Weatherford to Las Cruces via 180 etc.

Harv, I'm glad you took all that wet weather west. Now if you could just do something about that east of us. We plan to head for West Virginia Friday and looks like the windshield wipers may get a workout with rain and maybe even a little snow./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

RanchMan,

Today, after church, I got serious in the 60 degree weather and sprayed some paint. I got almost as much paint on me as I did on the target. Even after cleaning up, my kids were asking, "Dad, why is your face so red....and your hair, too?" Uuggg!!

The underside looks a whole lot better than the topside. So, another spray day in the future to bring the rest of the trailer up to par.

There are trade-offs...

Steel = 480 pounds per cubic foot
white oak = 46 pounds per cubic foot

So that weight comparsion is roughly the same using 1/8" steel and 1.5" white oak. Yellow pine is similar in weight to white oak.

However, 1/8" steel is may not be a sufficient thickness. It all depends on the span of the trailer supports and the weight of the machine.

I buy rough sawn white oak for .60 cents per board foot at the local mill.

Look for spf 60 pressure treated wood at your local lumber yard . It is very rot resistant . A not really ecologically freindly method is to use spf 40 wood ,then paint it using a mix of deisel and used motor oil . Just make sure you have a plastic ground cover to keep the excess "paint" from working into the soil . like I said.... Not real freindly to the environment if you get it on the ground . But it is Very effective . Kind of a poor mans creosote :)
All the best , John

Rather than use the hazardous waste ( used motor oil ) you would be better off using an asphalt based fence paint. It is designed so that most of its VOC's evaporate, and once cured, it is realitively inert to the environment.. unlike used motor oils...

Fellow citizens of TBN-ville, before the debate starts again, please read the thread Painting wasteoil on manure spreaders, which occurred from 6/24/2002 through 7/11/2002, for a complete dissection of all points of view on this topic. I don't think anyone's mind was changed this past summer.

Soundguy,and Mike PA
Both of you make excellent points ! When I use the Oil/fuel paint,I'm careful to keep the excess off the ground . One note however is that I can walk within 100' of here and find springs
discharging water AND oil . So, I don't think my contribution of less than a quart a year(what I use ,not spill ) is all that traumatic to my property,or more importantly to others . Especially considering I take GREAT PAINS to eliminate spillage . Having said that, I'd rather use SPF 60 wood most of the time for my outbuildings . It does however bring up the question of where all that arsenic goes :) BTW is there a possibility of adding I spell checker to this site ??? God knows I could use one !!!
Happy Thangiving to all of you . And this site is wonderful....Thanks John
