Rough hay Field

Hello everyone I have a ? I planted a gay Field and make a rookie mistake of now dragging it and its vary rough do u think I could use a constuction vibitory dirt roller talk flattin it out and rake the little ruts out ? Thanks

Sorry when I was typing my phone was fixing things I was typing I didn't drag it I plow 30 acres with a 2 bottom plow I broke it up into sections and had buddy's help in a lot of spots they plowed opposite directions so it left deep ruts, disking it helped a little but it takes so long working it cause u have to go so slow cutting racking and baling the field is like riding a bull would a big asphalt or dirt roller damage the crop ?

Yes.

You learned a lesson. After bottom plowing, you NEED to disc then maybe even drag with a spring tooth drag to get it to smooth out. Nothing to do now but wait till the crops are ready. About anything you do will destroy the seeds and seedlings.

It will damage more than the crops.

Microbes and nematodes are very important to soil fertility. Heavy compaction kills microbes/nematodes and denigrates the fertility above and beyond the physical impediment to root growth of the desirable plants. It can take decades to restore the balance after heavy compaction.

Multiple passes with a disc harrow and drag is about the best way out. Ken Sweet

You got a rough hay field? No quick solution. The easiest and fastest would be to recultivate the field. And make sure it's smooth before seeding.

There are differentt ways to do it depending on the type and size of equipment available.

Keep the packer out of the field! :thumbsup:

Disc and drag. I use my 7-ft wide Towner offset disc with a piece of chain link fence weighted with 4 tires/rims as the drag. Works fine.
