Many don't realize that an engine will run for quite a time with no oil. For those that go back aways and into drag racing: I remember a race between Grumpy Jenkins and Don Nicholson. These were called "Grudge Races".Grumpy had a 10 second 67 Camaro and Don was driving a 65 Comet . For the last race, Jenkins drained all the fluids out of his car as he thought "Dyno Don was sandbagging as he kept beating him two to three cars before the "money race". Grumpy beat him by half a car for the last race and ran the fastest ET of the two cars that afternoon. Of course lunched he the engine but didn't care.
Had a friend the was flying cross country in an airplane with a 6 cylinder Continental. Lost oil pressure and was about 25 miles from the nearest airport. He didn't touch anything. About half way there he said he thought he couldn't wait to get back to tell his buddies how long one of those things will run without oil pressure. It eventually seized with such force he thought it might rip the engine from the airframe. He dead sticked into an airport without damage, except for the chunks that got thrown thru the cowling when the engine came apart!
