Rounded off drain plug

/ Rounded off drain plug #601
My list for Kando's drain plug project.

One vise, one floor jack, two jack stands, one package of JB Weld, one oxy/acetylene cutting torch, one small pipe wrench, one large pipe wrench, one long cheater pipe, one box end wrench, one Lincoln HD140 and and a spool of Innerdhield NR 211MP. Have I overlooked anything? Oh wait, gotta have a six pack for this "hold my beer project"and smart phone to document for U-Tube. :blacksmith::tractor:

Forgot fire extinguisher, BF hammer, duck tape and first aid kit.

Anybody ever try one of these:

I don't even know if they're still sold. The concept was sort of like a pipe wrench, more pulling force tightened up on the bolt/nut.
I have one inherited from great grandfather. I would not reccomend it for anything. The road to Kando's problem is paved with these, off brand vise grips, cheap crescent wrenches and chinese channel lock pliers.

Even good brand vice grips and channel locks have no business where a wrench belongs. Good adjustable wrenches are fine, but junk ones are only good for a paper weight.

Yeah every tool has a proper use. Seems like it would be intuitive, but to many, it is not.

I think the OPs pipe wrench is junk. A pipe wrench with sharp teeth would get that out.

AGREED !!!
I have a 3 size set of Rigid pipe wrenches, any one of which would EASILY get that out.
If I didn't live more than 1000 miles away I would go do it for him.

I see an absolute zero chance of that tool working for Kando.

Agree, you can not suck any oil out the dipstick tube with that wrench. It is not even hollow. :D

My go to is lowes, which doesnt list ridgid amongst their stock. Recommendations out of lowes selection?

Order a Rigid.

6 inch? I would go with the largest that would fit in there, maybe 18".

And I agree - this is no place for HF-grade tools. Buy the best, and get the job done on the fist try.
Jaw size is right. If you need more leverage get the appropriate size pipe.

Ridgid pipe wrench. There's no substitute for the quality and the way it increases grip as you apply pressure.

A pipe wrench is the only tool for this job. Throw all the other pliers away. If the op had started with a pipe wrench this thread would have never existed.

True, but the entertainment value was priceless!
