Visited a dealer in W. PA today and test drove an RTV900 Recreation model.

Very nice machine, much different feeling than the '94 JD 6x4 gas or the '00 Mule 2510 gas that I use at work.

I had the dealer give me a quote for the following machine:
RTV900 Recreation (ATV tires)
Black Plastic Canopy
Glass Windshield
Hydraulic Dump (don't need/want it, but apparently there is no option here)

Price w/o tax: $12599

Does this price seem high to anyone?

We would really like to get the RTV, but may settle for the JD HPX Trail Gator if we cannot get a lower quote.

The hydraulic dump is standard on a couple models and optional on others.

The dealer might not have a plain one in stock. I think the hydraulic dump is around $1,500.

The salesman made the quote from scratch (not based on anything in stock)...he told me all the rec models (camo) came with dump bed and that it was not an option.

I don't see how if the machine is ordered from the factory the dump cannot be left out of the order if can be on other machines like the General Purpose.

Sounds like the price is just a tad over average. The dump bed is a very popular option so most dealers order them for the stock they keep on hand. I was quoted $11,300 for a worksite with ATV tires and a plastic lid. The factory windshield is another $660. The rec version has a speedo and of course you pay extra for camo.

My 06 as I recall mine was 12,299... out the door... This was in Southern Indiana and worth every penny in my opnion...

According to the 2006 RTV Brochure the hydraulic bed is standard on both the Recreational and Worksite models if you want to save money by eliminating the hydraulic dump bed you will have to get the General Purpose model but it doesn't come in camo. I got my worksite model with the ATV tires for $10,600 in Johnson City, TN. They didn't charge sales tax because I was an out of state purchaser.

Is there a reason you have to have the camo?

You could probably get a better price on a orange one.

Did you try a couple dealers in the area?

Re. buying out of state to save sales tax, PA requires utility vehicles to get registered. You have to prove you paid sales tax or they'll hit you with it when you register it.

This machine, if purchased, is going to be in use at our 70-acre camp.

Reason for camo: the machine is ugly as it is (at least the front end) and the orange doesn't help any.

I do however like everything else about the RTV...

The alternative would be a General Purpose model with ATV tires, plastic canopy, and windshield. NO hydraulic dump (minus 1500).

Does anyone know the price of a GP model?
tires should be of no extra cost, roof is $300, windshield $600...

I know the RTV is a little homely but the beast does what I ask of it very well. I was against the orange at first but after a few deer seasons hauling out our venison, I have grown to love that bright color. Hunting licenses are like drivers licenses, there are some people that simply should not have one. The orange is a good safety feature.
