RTV recall

Got a letter yesterday that improper ground cranks are showing up in some RTVs and Kubota is replacing the entire engine (ie:mine). My dealer said he had one self distruct in his lot, actually blew the block apart.

Did the recall offer specifics on s/n?

or was it - a generic, inspect, replace after we look at it?

It just stated "they identified a specific s/n range of RTVs with incorrectly ground crankshafts and they determined mine was in that range", so come and get a new engine.

Bought it in September or October of 04. Don't have the exact s/n with me but I recall the starting # is 177 something or other.

There are 74 specific serial numbers involved in this recall. We had one from our store and are replacing the engine as per Kubota instructions.

This is interesting and shows a unique insight into their process control and accounting. I view this as good. Let me explain:

Build a thousand units, ship them world-wide. Now go track 2 down and notify the owners of a potential problem.

Pretty impressive? What is more impressive - How did you identify which two had the problem?

Actually, there were 74 out of 10,000 units produced the first year. Warranty registration provides the connection between buyer and serial number and this is how Kubota notified dealers and customers about the problem.
