RTV w/ Ramsey wireless, its GREAT!

Hey Keybal,
Glad it works and mounted nicely for you.
I too got the toggle switch. Did everyone else? I thought it came with a rocker type switch. Moot now. I drilled out the plug for the hazards and put my switch there.
I forgot to mention. My remote works from waaayyy far away. I backed up close to 400 feet before it lost the signal.

I was dragging logs to the trail edge yesterday with the winch.

Using a combination of winch and/or pulling with the RTV itself, it could really pull!!! I dragged up a 12" diameter log 20' long up a 45 degree slope. Got a little pucker as the RTV went up on 2 wheels once (both right side tires were airborne) since the RTV was almost perpendicular to the log/hill.

Question - When using the OUT on the wireless remote, it would feed out for about 3 seconds then stop for about 2 seconds then feed out again (repeat 3 seconds/2 seconds). Is that right or do I have a bad remote?

In reply to bczoom , it's not good practice to winch when your machine isn't lined up with the object being winched. its not safe # 1, and it's hard on the axles of any machine, even on a full size log skidder we don't winch off to the side unless we have to.
Thanks

J Mack - I concur 100% that it's not a good practice.
It was one of those cases of "have to". The hill is steep so the trails have to traverse the hill. I did take all the precautions I could (park RTV on trail with huge tree 1' to the downhill side to help in the event it did tip, steady, cautious winching...

back to bczoom, you might want to think about a snatch block 4''-6'' and use a tree saver strap with a clevis . hook your block to a near by tree thats big enough to hold your winch load. ( down low as possible), that way you can winch straight off your machine the way it should be done.just want to make things easier.( and safer )

J-mack,

I do have a snatch block, tree saver, clevis but none were with me at the time.
I agree with you 100% that what I did was probably pretty stupid, but... I did it anyway. It was my first chance using the RTV and winch for pulling logs and I wanted to see what it could (and would) do. Just one of those cases where you need to test a piece of equipment.

Most of what I was pulling out was much smaller and it was pulling with absolutely no problem. I guess it's just one of those things you do to figure out what the equipment is (or is not) cabable of doing.

I have a CUT with a Farmi logging winch but logistically, it's much slower than the RTV setup. I'll continue to use the tractor for the bigger stuff.

bczoom:

In answer to your direct question about the remote; I have the same problem with my winch. I was using it on Sunday and had the same exact thing happen. It works fine pulling in, but stutters when being fed out by the remote. When using the dash mounted switch, it seems to work fine. I was going to post the same question! Wonder what is going on?

Thanks Keybal. I guess I'm not alone.

Anyone else with the Ramsey have this issue?

About the remote storage. If you have a cab or top on your RTV why not use Velcro and stick it some place up over head and out of the weather?

I guess that is the way the Ramsey is made. There is a guy on eBay selling the new Ramsey wireless winches delivered for $290.00! That is a deal for a great winch! If anybody is looking, the guy's name is "emotoguy". I don't know him, but that's a great price for a great winch!
