RTVX-1100C Stolen

I also installed (2)wireless driveway alarms that alerts us when some comes down our drive.Installed 5 HD game cams buy the barn, house and driveway. While not a fancy security system it is some deterrent.

Just make sure everyone knows that you have those cameras (better if they don't know the number you have or the locations, just "cameras all over") and you'll probably never have this again. Perhaps a sign by the road with some more deterrent if your community isn't close knit (and the word won't get out) "Security cameras in use" and "Protected by Smith and Wesson". :)

You can't stop a thief with cameras. If that were the case banks wouldn't get robbed.

Hope they catch the thief and also locate your stolen property! Probably someone who has been on your property before!!!

My thoughts too, who knew that you had it and could plot the escape plan from knowledge of your property?

Never stated that.BUT if it helps to identify them that is a good thing.

These new systems send an alert to your phone. You can then view the cameras and if it is someone that shouldn't be there you can notify the police or sheriff's dept. This is what I'm interested in, only problem is I need to get a smart phone, my simple flip phone won't work. Yesterday an investigator with the sheriff's dept and I went over the path the thief took. Today a Special Ranger with the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association stopped by and discussed the case. There's been several similar cases in this area.

No, you cannot. However, you can get them to go somewhere else pretty effectively with them. People who want to steal are going to steal. But they aren't complete idiots, I'm sure there are plenty of other farms around without cameras that have stuff to steal too. Plenty of cameras (and the thieves seeing them and/or knowing they are there) is, IMHO, pretty effective at getting them to go to someone else's farm to steal rather than yours. All banks have cameras, so, if you're gonna rob a bank, you're pretty much on equal footing and have to accept being caught on camera. And, sadly, most bank robberies are total desperation for drugs, they need cash in 10 minutes to get their next fix. People stealing vehicles are a bit less desperate, you have to fence a stolen vehicle, have some way to move it, etc. Requires more planning, and, therefore, more thought about which vehicle to steal. IMHO, it's pretty unlikely anyone is going to choose to steal the vehicle that has a camera sitting above it rather than the 100's of others that do not. Might be wrong, but it's served me well so far.

Sorry about your loss and angered with you at this violation of your home. I've been following the cellular trail camera market over the past few years and am getting ready to pull the trigger on the model in the link hopefully sometime this year. I've been waiting for prices on the cameras themselves to come down, quality to improve and the monthly fees associated with the pictures to decrease. This camera seems to fit the bill with me as I can pay a $5/month fee to Verizon and that's it. I would most likely opt for the additional $4/month for their premium service but I think $9/month is reasonable and much better than the fees many/most other companies are charging right now. The other aspect of this particular camera that I like is that pictures are sent immediately rather than in a batch at the end of the day. I believe you may also set a particular time each day for the camera to take a picture which allows you to verify that your batteries are still providing power to the camera.

I hope they catch the person/people that stole your RTV. Too bad they don't hang thieves down there these days.

My son had tires, rims and radios, speakers stolen out of both his and wife's cars not 10 feet from the bedroom he was sleeping in during a thunder storm. Now that's guts. Had a loaded 12 gauge with buck shot right next to the bed and sure would have used it if he heard them.

When you get cameras if possible I would get ones the transmit using a cellular network. That way they can't cut cable or phone lines that transmit. Also record off site. I know others that have had break ins and had security cameras and recorded right there. Well cameras are not worth a **** if what ever is recording what the camera sees is gone after the break in. That's one of the first things the thief looks for when they see cameras. It costs more but at least you can see who is the thief. Most of the time in the country it's someone you may know. My uncle and his wife had thousand of dollars worth of guns and jewelry stolen and had security camera and low and behold was his wife's brothers drug addict son. Got almost everything back and he spent a few years in jail for it.

I bet someone knew what he had and where it was stored. Around here guns are always loaded and within reach, cameras on and recording off site for the last seven days. I hate thiefs and liers.

I agree about cellular. Was typing my response same time you were. And yes about the hangings. Also a couple public hangings and I bet there wouldnt be very many thiefs after that. I say even better what ever the crime let the victim deal the punishment.

I have five security lights around the shop area and the shop is only about 150 feet from my house. I guess that only made it easier for them to break in.

In my opinion, 'security lights' simply light up the way in....I have zero on my place. I want them tripping and falling around and cursing broken ankles....not a nice lit up path to my door.

What I do have is several motion activated lights, a gate, driveway alarm with several points of detection (motion, magnetic probe), a good dog, and a well known propensity to burn off an entire clip of .223 into a good backstop a random times just to foster the illusion 'that guy isn't somebody to want to sneak up on'.

Majority of thieves are local, they've seen you out in you RTV and probably knew where you parked it. That where the local reputation of being a 'bit off plumb' comes in real handy.
