Rubber/Neoprene Pull-on Hunting Boots

I got a pair of those bfg's when I worked on a factory trawler out of Dutch ..... some of the best boots I've worn .... really loved 'em ....

Unfortunately they had just a little too much smell left from all the cod guts .... so naturally I kept them out in the garage ..... and the wife snagged 'em when I wasn't looking and gave them the heave-ho .... :(

And did you give her the heave-ho after that:)
I use them for everything here in Kodiak, never gotten a blister yet, the only time I felt they were a little lacking was goat hunting.

A lot of guys on the boats and construction around here are wearing the Dunlop Purofort thermos.PUROFORT+

Talked to a few of them that are using them and its pretty much unanimous that they are the best boots theyve ever had.

Not cheap. But sum of the guys i talked to are wearing them in bare feet because they are so warm

Tempting, but no ..... :D

I actually couldn't believe she did it ..... told her: "I don't go into the closet and chuck out your shoes do I ?"

They were outstanding on the boat, I wore them around here working outside and they were pretty good, although a little slick at times ....

Thanks, it's tempting - might just have to order up

Thanks for all the help and links.. My current leather boots are on their last season I think, so I think I may try a rubber boot next time..

If you try Muck boots you will never go back..........I own four pairs and have purchased probably 10 more for the wife, kids, grandkids.I have wide feet and have a hard time finding boots that fit...no problem with the Mucks.:)

they are near the top of the list.. Along with several other brands.. i really need to go someplace and try them on to see how they feel.. Since a lot of my hunting is up and down mtns and across them, i would prefer something that has good ankle support..

I was hoping my in-laws would buy me a Sig P229 x-change caliber kit for christmas, but my wife nixed that idea since it was gun related (damned anti-gun democrats LOL).. so boots may go on the list instead..

thanks again for all the advice

TSC has the muck boots and I tried them on.. I like the Muck Wetlands (more insulation than the Chore boots it seems).. I am not sure about the fit though.. I had med to thin socks on and they size 8 was pretty tight and the size 9 moved around alot when i walked around the store.. They were sorta tight thru the ankle, but still more slipping than I was hoping for - maybe thicker socks would help though.. I think they would not work very well walking on the sides of mtns.

I also want to check out the Lacross Apha boots and the others.. Cabelas advertises one of their house brands with a running shoe bottom - but the closest Cabelas is way too far away

I have always pretty much used leather, lace up, insulated boots for hunting/cold weather wear.. I keep seeing ads in magazine and catalogs for knee high, neoprene/rubber boots.. Most all are waterproof, some say they are breathable, and a few mention the foot area is based on an athletic shoe.. they offer them with no insulation, up to 2000 gr of insulation.. some are even offered in 'no scent' models for hunting..

Im not talking about the TSC $20 rubber boots for mud/farm use that fit rather sloppily. The ones advertised are normally $79 and up and are typically tapered at the ankle

Any experiences/thoughts on these boots for snow/hunting/winter wear??

As long as you feet dont get wringing wet, and your socks end up at your toes, and they are comfortable - I am thinking that may be the way to go in the future

Brian

My guess is that with the muck boots or any neoprene boots out there is that your feet will still get soaking wet. maybe not your calfs and ankles but the bottom is still all rubber, and rubber does not breath. They are proably more comfortable though. I do not have any though so i dont have first hand knowledge
