I paid $3,700 for a used splitter. Very heavy duty and rugged. I thought it was too much money at the time but I had some eucalyptus to split. Now I'm glad I did.

I guess you are just paying for the name.

OP had you ever looked at one in person before you bought it? I wouldn't spend that kind money without seeing what I'm spending my hard earned money on..

No, short of spending even more money to fly there what were the options? Even then I wouldn’t have culled it it fits look. I suppose I could have sent it back but I wasn’t disappointed then. It’s kinda been a compounding problem. I’d have loved to buy a used TW or other commercial splitter but they’re scarce.

I've run a Mighty Ox, if I ever decide I'm done hand splitting that's what I'll buy.

Their little horizontal/vertical splitter is $3400 and the vertical only with a lift is $7500. I used to have a Swisher splitter that was a first class piece.

I just didn't know if you had seen one up close before that's all..

No I hadn’t. I don’t guess I’ve seen a TW either or any other real commercial splitter. Practically everyone around here has a homemade one or a regular horizontal/vertical one.

Ag shows/Field days are an option... in my experience several manufacturers will have their products on display and demonstrating them.

It's a great opportunity to, somewhat, see them 'side by side' and compare. If you've got the cash/budget at the time, you can pick up a "Show Special" too.

You don't have to spend 7500 for a TW, that's just a myth that keeps on getting repeated.

They do make GOOD splitters for a lot less $, they make them that cost more too.
