I don't own a cell phone. The wife checks up on me enough already. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Besides, there is no cell service where I live. All these commercials pushing cell phones, but there are still more places in this country that they don't work then there are places that they do work. They never tell you that fact! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Soundguy,

Had a similar experience with my Farmall A except I wasn't on it. I was taking a break from mowing and had stopped it on a hill (No electric start on this tractor) so I could start it easily when I came back outside. Left it in gear as the brakes were somewhat unreliable /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif. Apparently I had knocked the magneto ground switch to open. (it was just a toggle switch) I was inside getting a drink and heard what sounded like my A sputtering to a start. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Looked outside to see it slowly lumbering in a slight circle down the hill. Apparently it had moved just enough to get one click from the magneto. Luckily I was able to run after it and shut her down before anything bad happened. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

yea my cell phone is always with me, around here often there are areas we have no cell service but luckly our whole property has halfway decent service as well as the other hay fields i do. its nice for others to be able to get ahold of me, and its also nice to have for those times i need tools or someone to pull me out when i get stuck, and its an added bonus to have it should i do something stupid someday and find myself stuck under something. its almost always in my pocket, especialy when im working alone even around the shop, if a vehicle or heavy peice of steel etc were to pin me who knows where or i somehow injured myself to the point i couldnt move i would be alot better off to be able to reach in my pocket and get my phone than to free myself and get to the house

I use a Motorola Talkabout radio which performs well on our property. It also gives me NOAH weather reports which are handy if you are working outside anyway. And a set of two with recharger's is less than $60.00, which isn't bad.

An SOS call can sound like this, "Honey I could really use another cold beer out here cause its really hot riding this tractor around the property while trying to look like I'm not thoroughly enjoying myself. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Of course if you use one your partner needs to carry the other or its of no value whatsoever.

I generally have my cell phone clipped to the hinge on my ROPS...to keep my wife happy...

But I doubt in the event of an accident it would be of much help...now I don't know really...I suppose I could...maybe...get to it...who knows?

So I try to be as safe as possible and not get into the position of needing to use that cell phone!

There was a report here of a man who had something thrown by his brush hog, go in his back can come out the front of his chest...and that a cell phone may have saved his life, as he could call for help immediately...so I am not knocking the idea...just wonder if that was a one in a million shot, as far as cell phones go on the tractor...

I'll keep carrying mine in any case...you just never know...

I carry my cell phone with me everywhere. And I let the wife know where I am, what I am doing and about what time I'll be finished.

But, I need to find a better place for my cell phone than my pocket. My back went out two weeks ago, and on all fours I could not get my cell phone out of my pocket.

I stayed in the driveway in the sun, until I could crawl over to a lawnchair. Once in the chair, I still could not get to the phone. Then I got yelled at for slouching when the wife came to check up on me.

You should be able to find a cellphone case that can clip on your pants/belt.

I always carry the cell phone. Of course on my property, the only place I have coverage is the high spots which also happen to be along the road so I guess if something happened I would probably see a neighbor before I dialed a number. Now in the low spots, there is no coverage but luckily the phone has a fun little game called "tetris" on it. I figure if something happens I can just start playing that game. See, I have found out that nothing can bring my wife running faster than me wasting time.
