Runnign 100 amp service to garage

So on my rental property the meter is 8.5 inches wide. My pole barn metal siding is 8.25 wide in the flat part. If I can not get the meter to set flat is there anything special I have to do.

The electric company is fine with me going underground. They say that if do my own wire then they will have to charge me a 250 connect fee. I guess they got to get there money somehow.

I wouldn't think there would be anything special you would need to do just shim it out with a piece of 3/4 ext plywood. Make sure you paint it up good on both sides before you put it in place.

If you think about it the difference in cost between buried service and running it overhead is not all that much difference to the power company. Then add in the added benefit of not having to maintain the easement and them not having to worry about trees blowing over and destroying their plant. Most power companies now have their own buried cable crews and the cost of additional poles, guy wires and other stuff that goes along with it make up for the difference between direct buried wire and the aerial wire. I think they try and jack you up making it look like going underground is some kind of upgrade or something. Basically by law they have to supply you service from their plant to your meter base wire and all, how it gets there shouldn't really matter to them at all because the actual cost to them isn't that much difference. They don't make any money when hooking you up and the $250.00 fee is just that, paperwork, permits, and a host of other gubment red tape. The only way they make money is when you spin the meter and the way they look at it it will take a long time to recover their actual cost of running you service when you are only putting in 100 amp service.

not sure what you are trying to accomplish with a sudden reverse direction. either you are not looking at layout right or afraid of using one 90 elbow and drill hole in wall.

I may be overthinking things. My current plan is to go straight out the back of the meter and into the the breaker box. The backup plan is to use a single 90 from the meter socket to the breaker box. What I am saying about the 90 is that the radius is 9.5 inches on 2 inch conduit. THe meter will be only 2 inches from the breaker box. I can not find a smaller radius 2 inch 90 as of yet. If I use the 9.5 inch one It will be sticking several inches out in front of the breaker box.

Try option C. Use a "Type LB Conduit Body" such as: Amazon.com: Thomas & Betts/Carlon 2In Pvc Type Lb Conduit Body E986J-CTN

That is what is generally used in such a situation.
