Rural Road Names.

In our are we have streets named Flood St. and Hurricane Path.

Is it any wonder?

The road sign that I thought was funniest is a stretch of highway that is both highway 5 north and 95 south at the same time

We have a Hope hollow road, Hog Mountain road, Ho Hum Hollow road, Turkey Creek road to name a few....

We have a dead end road by my place. Old county/township road that was abandoned 20 years ago. One of the neighbors who is prone to do such things erected a sign...he worked hat=rd to make it look good....

Road is now Obama Lane. On the same post an official MoDOT "Dead End" sign.

We also used to have Squaw Mountain and slang for "African American" Bridge Road, but the Libs were so horribly offended and couldn't sleep at night, we had to rename them.

i have a friend who lives on smoke rock rd, that sign has been stolen so many times they won't put it back up. I use to live on South Fulwar Skipwith Road. took up the whole envelope to write the address. and this is how you say exit in german, Ausfahrt i get a big laugh every time i go down a german highway.

One of our favorites we see on vacation in Tennessee is Stinking Creek Rd.

In southeastern Oregon we have "Dead Indian Memorial Highway", which I think is a candidate for most politically incorrect road name.

It is a major road, not just a back lane.

On a drive I regularly make for work I see Gravel Road (not much imagination there) and Chicken Shack Road.

I can't remember where it is now, but somewhere around here there is a sign for Mosquito Creek Road with a real estate sign on the end of the road advertising acreage for sale. I always laugh and think they should have got the county to change it to Oak Brook Lane or something before they tried to sell that property.

All of these are within a mile or so from me. The Dyke Mtn Rd sign is the most photographed sign around. It was originally spelled Dike, but 100 years ago for some reason the name was respelled? Costs the town dearly. lol
