Crashy, please tell us what you de-rusted, and did you use straight vinegar?

Main thing was a pair of fence pliers, joint was frozen solid. Could not even hammer it open or closed.
Just pure white vinegar.
They now work real well, Lots of other stuff in the can (plastic bucket. ) it only took a couple of days & they were about done. It still seems to be working, bubbles now & then. Will change it when no longer making bubbles.

Will pour it on a weed & see if it dies. It should be good for the soil with all the iron in it.

Crash, mix 50/50, acetone and automatic transmission fluid. Put it into a spray bottle, or a little squirt can. I have both. I'll bet such a concoction would have freed the action on your fence pliers, but, maybe not. Anyway, this homemade snake oil is the best rust buster, corrosion preventative I've ever used. And it is very cheap compared to commercial products, and it works better than all of them. Try it, you'll like it. Now, where vinegar really shines in addition to rust removal, is hard water deposits. One of my local grocers sells vinegar which is more acidic than food grade. Look for it. I think it was in the cleaning products section at a super WalMart.

Vinegar kills moss also. I use it on the north side of some buildings that don't get much sun or wind.

Its hard to believe we eat vinegar & it may even be good for us.

Use of ammonia is wide spread as is peroxide. At 1 time I had a use for 30% peroxide & it is truly nasty stuff. That was years ago, I had to sign for it & it came with a book saying what not to do with it. You don't dare get it on your skin or breath the fumes. Almost poisoned myself doing a thing called bombing.

No moss in this part of the world. but lots of mold & termites.

I just restored an old Griswold cast iron waffle iron. It was so rusty I had no idea if it was even good still or not. I just put it in a bucket that was about 75/25 distilled vinegar and water. About 3 days in the solution was bubbling and turning foamy with the water being rust color. I pulled it out and was amazed what a treasure I found. Couldn't even tell the thing was over 100 years old.

If you have the time, vinegar and water works wonders and it's non-toxic.

Gave this mix a try on some heavily rusted trailer spring u-bolts and plates. The pieces soaked in the solution for 3 days and no more rust. They still needed to be wire bushed to remove a brown film. Works great!

Many of the new chargers may not work for what you have in mind.

Don't know the scope of your prodject but applying phosphoric acid will neutralize rust and leave a coating. Lots of other acids that will also work.
Yes, I like Duro/Loctite Extend which comes in a spray can.

It seems that white vinegar works the best. It got pretty well used up, Had some other & used it. Seems to be slower but still works.

Would still like to figure out why things here rust so bad & Quickly. Low humidity, little rain & even things inside rust. ????

agree with white vinegar, I usually put the parts in a bucket of water with bakng soda in it for a 1/2 hour or so to neutraiize the vinegar then oil.

Good idea.
Warning.!!! I got busy & neglected the tools for a few days, once rust is cleaned up,the vinegar starts to build up rust that will barely scrape or brush off. Now what????
