The bucket on my B 20 is very rusty. Prior to painting, what do I use to remove the rust? Also what is a good primer. The tractor stays outside. Thanks in advance. John

This may not be practical for you, but I find my bucket is the shiniest after using it heavily. If you have access to a pile of sand or other material, just go dig around a bit and you'll get an instant sandblasting. That will clean off the rust, assuming it's not too heavy, then you can clear off the dirt, prime and paint.

John,

That is the best way to remove the rust well the easiest. If you really wanted to get down and dirty you would sand blast it or run a wire wheel over it. The bad news is after all the time consumed prepping and priming then painting you will bury the bucket for the first time and see metal again. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif So I guess what I'm getting at is don't get too meticulus with it like I did the first time /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif because it breaks your heart. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif just kidding on that but just make sure you get plenty of pictures of your finish work before running it.

Oops almost forgot I used just your basic XO heavy rust metal primer the first time and then just the unit's manufacturer's paint after that.

Uh, what is XO primer?

Wonder how it would be to grease the shiny parts instead of painting them? Quicker, faster, easier, cheaper. The shiny parts won't stay painted but will insist on being shiny as soon as you use the implement again so you will get temp rust protection, at best, from any paint job no matter how you prime and paint or how high the cost of painting.
Never heard of a paint that would stay on something digging in the ground.

Anybody got a problem with a liberal coat of grease?

It's what I put on my mold board (oil, not grease). The main reason for doing this on a mold board is to allow the dirt to slide off more readily, but it also prevents it from rusting - one thin coat before and one thin coat after. Avoiding the "sticky mud thing" would probably be beneficial for FEL use also.
