I put another 7 hours on the clock since the block heater was (re)installed. So far, so good. No leaks or blowouts. I just hope that there was no internal cylinder wall damage caused when the tractor lost fluid and heated up enough to lose power. I can't think of a way to show one way or another if it did or not. I suppose a leakdown test would show if it were bad enough. Wouldn't think that would be a quick or easy test to run though.

A coolant temp gauge needs liquid water/coolant on the sensor to give a proper reading...It got way hotter than what your gauge said...lost power? Partial seize?

No way I would accept that as a lifetime purchase.
Yea, it cooled down and seems ok, but it is no longer as new... ran it long enough to lose power.....its hurt, tell them to shove it...

What he said.

I would think some type of unlimited engine warranty could be negotiated. If not tell them to simple trade tractors and give you a new one.

Just a thought, does anyone know if the Kioti ECU is programmed to shut the engine down during an extreme overheating event to avoid engine damage. Would there be any history of such stored in the ECU.

Negative. without coolant in the block the temp measuring probe has nothing to measure from.

If it lost power, then possibly there is a good chance the cylinder walls and piston skirts are scuffed an the piston rings lost their temper. If it starts using oil and smoking you will know that there was internal damage from the loss of coolant.
That's the bad thing with block heaters that don't screw or bolt into the block.
I brought a heater for my NH and it goes into a freeze plug hole which is held in place by a toggle bolt. I never installed it, seen to many that came out and destroyed the engine.

What would be the easiest way to inspect the inside of the cylinders? Do glow plugs go into the cylinder or the intake? Remove one and insert an inspection camera into the cylinder?

You could but it would be tough to be sure either way, if it were me, I would go to the dealer and talk to someone that has authority there and explain that you don't trust this tractor because you lost power due to something they did incorrectly.

Purchasing a brand new tractor and having this happen isn't right, if you keep the tractor the thought that it "may" have damaged the engine will always be on you're mind and that just isn't right..

The only way I know to check that engine is to pull the head so you can check each bore for scoring and look for blueing in the bores.
You still won't be able to see tha rings and look for aluminum melted to them. But usually checking the bores for blueing and scouring will answer most questions of damage.

I think that I will get ahold of the dealer and have them do a compression test and see where that is at. Does anyone have a shop manual to see what range that compression should fall in?
